Default 4K Genie installation question...

Back to DTV

After 3 years in the wilderness with Dish, Im going back to DTV on Monday. A question about the installation before he arrives Monday.

Present Dish hookup with antenna on roof leading to coax room connection in 2nd story media room with my 65 4k set. I should note that the entire house was prewired for ethernet/coax wall connections in most of the rooms. I also have a small 27 HD set in my downstairs living room which is fed from (probably) a splinter from the roof antenna. So, I have the main Dish receiver DVR in the media room with a Joey feeding the 27er in the living room.

On the DTV order sheet, it shows for TV 1 ( which I want in the media room) a Genie HD DVR. For the living room, it shows a 4K Genie mini. I DONT want the Genie HD DVR in the living room since the 4K set in upstairs. If this is the way it will be installed, Im worried about the 4K signal being on a different floor from the 4K set.

In addressing this issue over the phone with DTV, I got the impression that both the Genie HD DVR and the 4K Genie Mini could be wired together in the media room which would then require either a Genie Lite, Wireless Genie mini or a Gini mini in the living room.

The main reason for switching from Dish is to get the BEST 4K signal to my large upstairs receiver.

Am I worried about nothing here? While it doesnt matter to me, my wife will be very upset if the Genie HD DVR has to be placed in the living room. Sorry about this post being so lengthly, but not sure how to phase this question clearly.

Welcome Back to D* - First The HR54 Does NOT output 4K from it's HDMI Connection as it's 1.4.

The C61K Mini is the only D* receiver that Has a 4K HDMI output 2.2 -That will need to be connected to your 4k Set -That's only way to see 4K (today).

The HR54 WIll record 4k and the Mini will Playback 4k resloution

The Installer Will put any Receiver anywhere you want - However - The C61K needs to be at the 4k location so it's HDMI out port 2.2 can connect to your 4K TV HDMI 2.2 Input.

You can set recording and view the playlist from the mini and watch live TV from hr54 (the mini) does not have a Tuner for live tv.

You can put the MINI and HR54 on the same TV it should have more than one HDMI input- SO when you want to watch 4k Switch to input 1 - Want to watch regular HD or sd Change input 2. That would require 2 Rg6's from the D* Swm Splitter to that location.

I’m worried about the 4K signal being on a different floor from the 4K set.( That won't effect anything)

SO your order shows A HR54 & Mini -is that all? You could add another Mini or H25 Receiver Or HR24 at the other TV. - The will see the combine play list from the genie

The installer did put the the C61K Mini directly to my 4K set.

One of the surprising things is that the 4K Mini doesn't have an ethernet port. I do have the DVR connected hard wire (ethernet). Wondering how the 2 devices talk to each other or how the 4K Mini updates. They don't appear to be using my home wifi.

Either they must have some internal way of talking to each other or updates come directly from the DTV satellite. Ideally, it seems they should be via my data input (Frontier at 100 MB). Guess I'll have to go back to DTV school.

I only have one TV a Samsung 4K UHD and I have a HR54 which serves as my DVR and it records in both HD and 4K and I have a mini which handles my 4K content. Basically I only use the mini. I can watch content recorded on the DVR thru the mini as well as watch one of the 3 4K DTV channels on the mini. I put the remote for the HR54 in a drawer.

The mini doesnt need to be connected to the internet. It pulls everything that it needs from the dish. The HR54 connects to the internet only to talk to DTV for PPV movie content and billing I believe.
