If that is true but I dont see 4k channels, and I dont, then what

DTV site says you must have HR54 and I have the HR44

ps

the only reason this even matters now as there wont be any tv shows in 4k for a long time is to do movies and I could do that at Amazon but guess what, they dont rent 4k movies

they only SELL them for $30 on up

appreciate your help BTW, are you retired, is this your hobby?
The Reason you don't see any 4K channels are as follows
1.You need to call D* (or whomever) and Order a Upgrade to 4K
2.That will get you a service call to upgrade to 4k
3. When that Happens your account will be enabled to receive 4k programing. Then you will see channel 106 in the guide

Your Question's
1.Yes - 3 times (last one from Directv)
2. Not really just trying to help folks with what little time I have left
3. so that make me old

Yes 3 times, what question was that ?

Earlier you said this

an HR44 + a 4K TV with the RVU client built in you can record 4K programming and watch it

so why would DTV need to come out if I have a 44 and a 4k tv that is RVU? What is it they do physically?

1. Yes, I'm Retired 3 times over 50 yrs
2. They have to Enable the RVU feature with a Deca and Auth your account (with Info from your TV) so they can bill you $7 a month for the enabled 4k TV with RVU - That's Why you need a service call -to have it done - When finished They remove the deca and connect to your local internet again and your then able to WATCH (RECORDED) content on your HR44 - That you can only record after your account has been 4k enabled to download and see the 4K content.

Until that happens all you can is connect a 4K Blu-ray player to a your 4K tv and buy disks or Join Netflicks and stream 4k from them over the internet and (Watch your Broadband cap) go over your limit with just one 4K movie.
