Default getting HR44

so after months of non stop problems with my genie HR34 direct decided to give me a HR44. suppose to get it Thursday. so far all i see is that it comes with a, believe, 12 volt adapter for power, unlike the HR34 that directly plugs into 120 volts. anyone get this upgrade, if it is a upgrade, and how do they like it.

How did you manage to convince them to send you one? I've been complaining for months, they just sent me another HR34, which I promptly returned. Was on the phone again last night, and all they say is a scripted "The HR34 has a known issue, engineering is working on it, we are not sending out replacements because is a software issue across all Genies" They have been telling me this since October.

No it comes with a Power block (external) that plugs into (the rear) of the genie and AC cord plugs into the wall.

1. What can do is call in and say The Hr34 is (Dead) will Not power on (this saves time testing)
2. Then request a service call $50 when the installer arrives ask what he has on the truck to replace it (he) should have a Hr44 or Hr54 -If not reshedule the appoinment.
3. Order a Model Genie of your choice online from Amazon or solidsignal (pay) the Lease fee $299 and call D* deactive the 34 And activate the New Genie.

#2 is the least costly and if your happy a $20 thank you to the installer will get any receiver of your choice changed out while he is there (if Needed)

Doing it the way you have been going at it - is very Frustrating Reason in D*'s Mind all Genie's are the same & have the same features. The only real difference is in the Chip MFG in each model the HR34 is the oldest but that still makes it a Genie.

well after being told for months that is was a software problem and it would do no good to send another, HR34, because it would do the same thing, told this over and over again, i finally talked to the right person, she said that the HR44 would be the one im getting. in fact the installer said they dont even offer the 34 anymore. installed yesterday and up and running. might have a few more features, its smaller, suppose to be able to hold more hours of recordings. anyway no cost to me.ill see how long this one last.

that's the best price to have! The Hr34 had a 1TB Drive same as the Hr44 & Hr54 does.

I use the Rc71 remote and have it programed for my TV and AVR -enabled HDMI -CEC in the Hr44 & AVR & TV -Lock the sound for AVR and it controls on button power on & off .

Hope you find it works much faster than the Hr34

yeah the remote that come with it looks cool. but i have a harmony 900 and harmony one that i use, they control everything, tv, dvr, receiver, blu-ray player and cd player. he also checked the signal and replaced the cable ends. all i know is that it works. now when i push a button it does something and not 15 seconds later.

I too had a troublesome HR34 that was annoyingly slow changing channels. I was eventually able to get rid of it (as described in another thread) and my HR44 is working just fine.

I also now enjoy the two mini-genies for my whole home setup that unlike before emulate the main DVR by providing all movie statistics, replays, rewinds, and incoming phone calls.

i put up with it for months and months. after all, i was told is was a software problem, and therefore no sense sending me another. it was the third time i called, and happened to talk to the right person, that i finally got results. i was ready to go with dish. i ran into a tech months ago and he told me it was the hr34. the tech that came out said they dont even offer the 34 anymore. but there going to keep stalling as long as they can. why do you think they sold to at&t, not because they were making to much money. all the commercials they ran trying to get customers, that cost a fortune. dont get me wrong, i really like directtv and have no intentions of switching. but this time it took a little to long to get this problem resolved. oh they did also credit me $30.00, so thats not bad.

The new model is the Hr54. Same performance etc as the HR44, but it is ready, in conjunction with the C61K client or a compatible RVU TV, to deliver 4K when 4K channels appear later this year.

Then they are coming out with 8K TVs soon I hear then a couple of years down the line they are coming out with 12K TVs. Stringing us along. We will pay more for another TV, More for a newer receiver, and more for the better satellite feed from DTV! The TV companies are designing the TVs to only last a few years now anyway! Bad thing is, derectv will phase out regular HD so you'll have to change.

Just to warn you, My 44 has A-D-D when I change the channel, fast forward and reverse. I put in ch 202 and end up with ch 2 I push the ch up button and nothing happens I fast forward to go thru a commercial and it takes me sometimes 3 or4 trys to stop it then I have to hit reverse to go back and sometimes it happens on that also. Good luck, maybe you'll get a good one. I hear they are coming out with the fabled Aderall chip for ADD DTV syndrome!
