Default Subscribers w/Genie DVR - How Good Is It?

Greetings from a current user of Verizon FiOS Triple-play bundle service (2 Cisco DVRs that can see each other's recordings). I'm posting here because I'm thinking of returning to DirecTV. I had an HR-24 DVR at the time that I wasn't that impressed with. Now DTV is on the second-gen of its Genie DVR (the HR-44, right?). So to brush up on it, I searched this forum for the word "Genie", but can't find answers to the following questions. So feel free to weigh in.

(1) Other than having 5 tuners (which is nice), is this box any better in design than the old 2-tuner DVRs? I.E., is it more responsive and/or less prone to doing stupid things? (The HR-24 wasn't that good, IMO).

(2) Is it any better than its predecessor, the HR-34? And do the installers still try to give new or returning subs this older version?

(3) What's its recording capacity in HD hours compared to the HR-24? I hope it's more...

(4) How well do these Genie Minis work? My current whole-home setup takes forever to do a simple 30-second skip on the remote DVR. Are the wired ones better than the wireless ones?

(5) If I decide I don't need to access a remote DVR's recordings, is it better to get a Genie for the main TV and a 2-tuner DVR for the bedroom TV? (I.E., forget the Mini altogether?)

Thanks in advance, MPEG-0

The mini & any Hd -Hddvr Receiver is $6 a month even if you have a RVU enabled TV - Advantage of the Extra HD- or HDDVR is is doesn't take a Live tuner away from the genie while viewing live tv. Still leaving 5 turners for recording.

Love the HR44, smaller, faster than the 34, you don't want one of those. 1 TB of storage. I prefer HR24s to the minis.

But if you didn't like the 24s you probably won't like the 44s either, they're pretty much the same except for the speed, extra tuners, PIP, and storage space.

If you have a Genie and a 24 they can access each others recordings.

I went from an HR23 to the HR44 yesterday. HR44 is much faster and has some good features for recording a series that the 23 did not have.

So far the only problem I have found with the 44 is the remote control that comes with it. It is a completely new simpler design that unfortunately does not have a stop button for playback.

You can still use the old style universal remote (which is what I am doing) but only in the IR mode.

But as far as the DVR itself is concerned it is way better than my old HR23.

If you got a Rc71 with your genie - The Genie will do both IR & RF at the same time =I use the RC71 for channel changes FF RW I use the Rc65 to Turn the TV & unit off & On
