Just got a Samsung 4k p8550 tv. Samsung is telling me to just check 1080p in the direct tv settings and turn Native off. Is this the way to go?
I have found before that when I checked 1080i when the tuner was on a1080i channel that lower resolution channels were displayed ok. Other material I read says to check all the resolutions your Tv gets. |

It's really up to you. If you set native off and just check 1080i/p the DirecTV box upconverts everything to 1080i before it goes to the TV. If you set native on and check all the resolutions, the TV does all the upscaling. You can try them both and see if you can tell the difference. Native off reduces the handshaking over the HDMI link and so can give you faster channel changes.
