Default genie mini for tailgate set up

I have the HR23-700 WHDVR and H25-100 "minis" system.
When I go camping I take one of the H25s and I have a duplicate dish, tripod, 21v PI and everything works great I can be set up in ten minutes. My friend in Ohio that camps with me finally got DTV so he could do the same thing, except he was given the Genie system with the three lnb and the HR44-500 HDDVR and c41-100 mini

He bought a duplicate dish and all the required items, everthing is SWM, when he tried to do a dry run at his house the mini receiver would just say "searching for servers" and could not access the menu.
I guess the question is... can the c41-100 receiver act as a stand alone receiver in this set up.
Or will he just have to use the HR44 DVR?

Thanks in advance, I have read this site for years and always found the answer I needed, but this one has got me stumped.
DTV subscriber since 1997.

The C41 only works WITH the genie- He would need to set up the genie or get another HD receiver to take on camping trips-

The mini only get "live TV" from the Genie as well as recorded content - it has no (tuner) of it's own

As westdc says, the C41 mini does not have a tuner so will not work on its own. It is a CLIENT and needs a Genie server to operate.

Thank you all for the response, I had a feeling that was going to be the case.
When I upgraded to the WHDVR SWM set up, I had to change out my LNB to get it to work with the H25s. That's why I haven't upgraded to the Genie, even though I am out of contract, kinda of happy with the way things are!

Would a H25 work with the Genie system? His LNB is SL3S4NR2-14
I was trying to save him the trouble of disconnecting the main DVR, but that may end up being what he will do.
Thanks to all!

The H25 will work with a genie system, just replace one of the minis.
