Default Is a Directv Genie & Genie Mini a Roku?

Hi,

I'm about to get Directv but before I do I'm wondering if there is a way to avoid those $10-$15 advanced receiver and additional receiver fees?

Can I buy an HD receiver and not incur those fees?

Is a Genie basically a Roku they charge you monthly for?

Check your personal Message Box (under the welcome box) I sent a welcome message.

The only way to beat the fee's is connect a OTA to your TV and get hD signals from over the air. should you wish to record them you will need a TVIO or like product and pay their fee's to activate recording OTA.

The advance Reciver fee's include (HD) service (DVR Reording actvation) the additional receiver fee is only included for each additional receiver $6 or Genie Mini you wish to attach to additonal TV's - To view and play content from all receivers an additional charge of $3 will activate that service.

D* Genie is nothing like a roku

Roku is an internet streaming device, nothing like a Dish receiver.

Maybe he shouldn't have capitalized dish but he knows what he's talking about.

Subscribing to DTV, Dish, Comcast, U-Verse, ETC is kind of like buying an airline ticket. Extra charges for drinks, food, checked baggage, picking your seat, etc are all part of the full meal deal.

With video, there's receiver fees, video package fees, installation fees, HD fees etc. Also part of the full meal deal.

I've got friends that like to brag about no land line, no cable bill, etc. They claim they stream though their internet packages and watch OLD sitcoms via their wonderful NetFlix ($8 a month, shortly going up to $10.) No sports or very little. I will say they save money, but they're NOT getting the FULL MEAL DEAL. However, they do get to brag about how much they're saving. I just do silent eye roll and don't pay any attention to their verbiage.
