Default $20 Advanced Receiver Service?

Hey all,

I still haven't pulled the trigger and gotten D*, but I did call to do so today. I was calm and curteous and told them that I really wanted the HR34 receiver, but my CSR said that I'd have to pay $99, when I asked him if there was any way that fee could be waived, he seemed exasperated and said, no. I continued on with the order and then he explained a $20/month Advanced receiver service fee for using the HR34 and whole home service, again I asked to waive the fee, again he said, no. I politely told him that I had changed my mind about ordering the service and that I would just stick with Uverse. He said, "okay, good luck with them" and hung up on me!

So, my questions are:

1) should I just call back and hope for another CSR who might be friendlier and more willing to give me what I want?

2) do all of you who use the HR34 and Whole Home pay this CRAZY $20/ month fee? $500 extra bucks per contract so that I can use the tech that Uverse has had for years and given me for free seems excessive.

3) am I unlikely to get the HR34 for free and have the $20/month fee waived? Folks here and on avs forum have all suggested I stick to my guns as a new customer and should ultimately get these items included at no extra cost, but now, I'm a bit dubious.

Any help/thoughts appreciated.

call back each time you will get a different offer -check your PM and welcome to the site.

$10 -HD service
$8 -DVR FEE service( Not per receiver)
$3- Muit-room View (MRV)

That is the advanced Service fee's -per account and will not be waived or discounted. Every thing else should be throw at a new sub with deep discounts.

Thanks West!

So what other fees can I expect to pay?

I'm thinking programming package fee. $85
Advanced receiver fee. $20
Per receiver fee. $6 each
Taxes. ?
Is there anything else that I can expect to pay?

Thanks again!

You get $10 off on the Advanced Receiver fee if you sign up for Autopay.

I signed up in February on the old rates, and just to show the changes since then: Got the HR34 free, Advanced Receiver fee was $10, 0 with autopay. Also got the old prices for the 1st year.

Just a tip. If you have a pc in any of the rooms where you are putting a receiver, you might think about using the DirecTV to pc app instead of a receiver. Also, if you have a room where you only watch when you're not watching on the main receiver, you can use an HDMI splitter and run it to the other room and use an RF remote. All this depends on your viewing habits, but these ideas can help cut down your bills and still let you enjoy the service.

Also, make sure you get a discount with a referral credit and/or something like the Costco discount.

When I had my HR-34 installed in July, I paid $499 for the receiver and $95 for the SWM upgrade. I do not pay a $20 advance receiver fee. But I did request whole-home service that I didnít have before, and thatís costing me an additional $3/month.
