Default Toshiba 30HF66 Picture Quality

Hello,
I am looking for a TV to solve my Samsung delima. I saw the 30HF66 at Bestbuy, but the Contrast, Brightness, and Color were all set WAY to high so I had no clue if the PQ was any good. Unfortunatly, the remote was not around so I had no way of getting into the menu and changing the settings around. I really like how it looked with the speakers on the bottom and all, I could use that extra space on top of my dresser that my Samsung is taking up (I am getting a replacement and will probably sell it) Anybody know if this set has good picture quality? It looks good, and I read the review on this site, and it sounds good, but I just want some more opinions.

if you press both volume buttons at the same time (either both volumes or both channels) you can access the menu without a remote. The picture quality is very similar to Insignias, you will notice that the menus in both tv's are almost identical. both are made by the same overseas manufacturer. while aesthetically pleasing, the 30hf66 does not have very good picture quality in my opinion. the whole picture is slightly blurry compared to a samsung and especially a sony.

Wow, that sounds like a neat trick. I'll try it with my 30HF85 and see if it works! How did you find that out?

I just tried that and yeah it works on my 30HF85! Pressing both volume buttons simultaneously. Both channel buttons simultaneously didnt do anything. Thanks for finding that out!

I also wonder is there any way to change the Input source (Video 1, Video 2, etc) and Screen Modes (Full, Normal, TheaterWide, etc) without the remote also? I don't think you can change those from the User Menu, but I can't remember.

Are Philips and Toshiba both made by Orion?

I don't think phillips is made by orion but the two TV manufacturers you can connect through Orion are Insignia and Toshiba. both tv's are very similar. the hf66 model brings them closest as they've ever been. If the toshiba's were somewhere in the $600 range they'd be a great bargain but I can't imagine paying $800 for this TV when I could buy a new LG slimfit or Samsung Slimfit OR an open box Sony somehwere...

Thumbs down

Today I was back at BB for the first time in a while, so I got to see another display model 30HF66 (different BB from the other one I saw it in). This 30HF66 was really ugly, had terrible blaringly obvious geometry problems and terrible RGB convergence, some of the worst I've ever seen. So it's not true that all the 30HF66s have near-perfect RGB convergence as people previously thought (and like the previous unit I saw had).

Also some 30HF66 owners at AVS Forum have been recently reporting new problems with these sets, I didn't bother to recall all the details yet, but it seems like public opinion on these new Toshiba sets may be back on the downhill trail once again.

Well, I guess the 30HF66 is no longer a choice then. Either way, I am getting my TV exchanged, so I believe this replacement will fix most to all of my problems. I think this because my set was made in 2005, I ordered it in 2006, so it had all old electronics in it.

That should not be an issue. I really doubt that having a TV manufactured 1 year ago but still never "used" makes it more likely to have problems.
