Question... Does that come with configuration software to allow custom button assignments to connect with various player software?

No drivers are needed.. Just plug-in the reciever (USB cable) into the laptop in my case wireless everything on this laptop. So that's about it.

IE - Firefox
Music Player - whichever one your using as your main
Etc..
Mail for me is Outlook 2007 that opens up when you press the mail button.

Gaming or whatever you want to use it with works. So you get a mouse and keyboard media and main functions in one remote.

This remote works with whatever you have setup on your system. I can turn on (if the laptop is in sleep mode) turn off (shutdown OS) the laptop an etc..

I'm getting close to the point that I'm going to have to arrange a wireless mouse. I think I have the range on my Logitech but just in case, I have some usb to rj-45 connectors and can manage USB though the wall for a short distance, say 17 feet. The other alternative is bluetooth which has much better range.

But I should be golden. I've noted that the older Logitech series with the ball mouse have better range. The logitech laptop edition mice offer dongles that don't require a dongle reset, so if worse I could go that router as well.

Wireless mouse and wireless keyboard use to use a connector box. The newer ones use USB transmitter. To me either one works good. The range is over 12FT. I did try HP Wireless Media Keyboard with mouse it was just crap and the range was terrible.
