Try taking power off of the 1212 and rebooting the PC.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I did try both of those last night along with replacing all the cords (USB, RCA, SPDIF) and no go. I'm going to try the disconnect everything and walk away for 24 hours. It's amazing how that works sometimes.

Have a good weekend!

It was a problem with the audio cable. Replaced and that took care of the problem. Thank goodness!

I just got my hd pvr yesterday and have been having trouble with the TotalMedia Extreme program...

I have no problem getting it to work with my PS3 while in 720p and 1080i, but when I try to start it up on my Wii with a 480p signal, the program crashes...??
- Nothing appears in the preview window
- If I'm lucky, I'LL hear 5 secs of sound
- Message pop up saying the program has to close.. etc

I also get the same results when I switch my PS3 to 480p (just to test it out to see if it just wasnt the wii cords). As soon as it changes, the image on the preview window freezes... Then the "has to close/error" message pops up after clicking around a few times.
Any idea? (it's a 1212 model), On Windows Vista

Default Resetting Sound Inputs After Capturing

I do not know if this is a bug, or simply expected behavior, but when I capture a stream, I select the digital sound input and 5.1 sound, as I have a digital tos cable running between my directv dvr and the hd-pvr.

If, by chance, I forget to change the sound input back to rca inputs on the back panel after I have finished capturing, I lose the pass- trough sound to my tv, even though I have closed the TME software, and the hd-pvr is not "active" although still on in its pass-trough mode.

What has been the collective experience of the group with this issue (or non-issue, as the case may be)?

The PVR box will stay in whatever mode you leave it in. In addition to the audio it will also occur for the video.

I have been using the 1212 to transfer my home videos to my computer. Much slicker than trying to use my DVD recorder as I get a single file per tape. Also maybe it just in my head, but the video seems better than my DVD recorder makes. It makes 720x480 h.264 files that I can then edit with my VideoReDo before making a DVD for the other family members.

Anyway, I noticed that when I switch to the composite video input if I don't switch back to the component video input and record a small file, the box will stay on the composite video input, just like what you are experiencing with the audio.

Default Another Couple of Observations

I am still playing with software and hardware. In addtion to the cost of acquiring the 1212, I have purchased the following hardware and software:

1. WD TV Pro Live Plus
2. Monoprice HDX-401E HDMI Switcher
3. Video Redo h.264 Version
4. Blu-Ray add on for Roxio Cineplayer software
5. Total Media Extreme 2 Upgrade. This seemed to be the clearest and easiest pathway to Blu-Ray authoring of my edited files, and I used a coupon and bought it for about $30. I did not try to install it on the laptop I use to operate the 1212, becuase I did not want to take the chance of destroying a working set up when running the upgrade. It resides and my main computer, and is serving my needs quite nicely from there.

Everything is working fine. I have recorded and edited many sports events with great success, and they are all archived on the WD TV device. Altough it will read the menus on .iso files created from standard definition material, it cannot read the menus from .iso's of blu-ray or AVCHD movies. I hope that can be addressed in a future firmware upgrade. The files play back quite nicely, though, albeit with a warning that the menu is invalid, do you wish to proceed. If you select "yes" the files play perfectly, as if you had chosen to create the .iso with no menu.

The one unsatisfying area still seems to be finding a software solution that will convert captured .ts material to a non- degraded sd format. I like to keep a standard .iso of of my games, along with an HD file.

I have not really tried the TME 2 upgrade to see if it does a better job that the TME edition that came with the 1212. The orginal software did pretty poorly, producing a flat-looking product that visually seemed to be bested by dubbing my Directv HR 20-700 shows to my DVD recorder.

My only regret is that I did not discover this product earlier.

Thanks, it sounds like it will. Also I'll have to buy a sound card, do you connect the 1212 to the sound card with an optical cable or rca? It looks like some don't have rca input only optical, or do I need to buy a sound card that has rca inputs?

I use the 1212 with my U-verse DVR regularly. Works just fine, excellent in fact. The sound card does not enter into the ability to record video. You hook up the component video inputs from your DVR and then you can hook up your HDTV to the component video outputs of the 1212. Those outputs are there for video feed through and not for playing back the recordings.

Same with the audio. The audio outputs from the U-verse DVR is connected to the 1212 audio inputs. The audio outputs of the 1212 can be used for pass through to your TV. Those outputs are there for audio feed through and not for playing back the recordings. Alternately, you can use the optical audio in the same manner if desired. The optical output is normally used with a surround system for 5.1 audio.

Both the video and the audio is recorded via the 1212 inputs, so the sound card and video card has no bearing on the audio/video recording.

Now to play back the recordings you will need a sound card for the audio. You will also need a pretty good video card that will allow HDTV resolution output as well as a compatible output (HDMI, component or VGA) to what your TV needs.

Alternately, you could think about one of these for playback: ASUS O!Play - TV HD Media Player. I use these for my HDTVs not connected directly to my HTPCs. It requires hardwire LAN, but they will allow any connected TV to have access to recordings on your PC.

Thanks a lot, what I want to do is use the 1212 to record from the stb to my pc. From what I've read the usb from the 1212 to pc will transfer the video, but no audio and I'll need a sound card to capture the audio. I'm not sure if any sound card will do or if I need one that has specific inputs. I'll be buying a newer pc so the video card should be ok for the hd.

edit:
ok I see now you can use the line in port to input rca stereo, so I guess my question is since most computers have line in ports do I even need to buy a sound card or do I just use the line in on the back of the pc?
