Unhappy Problem hooking up sound!

Hi there

I just hooked my pc with my HDTV using a DVI to HDMI cable and found out that DVI doesn't carry out sound.

I bought a regular 3.5 stereo jack cable and hooked that from my sound card to my HDTV but also, no sound.

I don't know how can I get sound from this setup ?

My info :

46" Samsung HDTV model number (LA46S81) its a european model
HDMI to DVI cable connected from a 8800gtx video card.
A Creative X-Fi sound card.

I would appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance.

The 3.5m audio jack is usually for the VGA input. There is most likely an audio analog RCA (red and white) input associated with your HDMI input on your TV. Just get a 3.5 to RCA mini conversion cable (at Radio Shack) and plug er in. That should tide you over until you get a SS system.

Hi guys, its me again.

I just bought the cable and tried to connect it to my HDTV, I connected it like this :

1 = The DVI - HDMI cable which is connected from my PC to HDTV.
2 = The Y RCA male to 3.5mm cable I just bought, hooked from my Sound card to my HDTV.

I tried to connect it to every single jack on the Sound card but it wouldn't work, I also tried that on the HDTV.

Is there an important step that I have forgot ? Im really scratching my head here, I thought I did everything correctly.

Help please.

Just plugging in the cable may not be all that is required. Normally with a HDMI cable the TV is going to expect the sound to come through the cable. It may be that you need to find the menu selection to tell your TV the sound is coming through the audio connections.

Also from the manual page:
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/co...5/EN/4_sub.htm

- When using an HDMI/DVI cable connection, it is only possible from the HDMI 2 IN terminal.
So it may be you are plugged into the HDMI1 port (terminal) I'd check that.

Also for PC use they recommend using the PC (VGA) input. This usually is because all other inputs other than the PC input will add some overscan.
