Dam Type A, Vodoo 3 and HD.. I had a Vodoo 3 in my 486 100 and then AMD K62 back in the day. HD was just a twinkle in my eye back then.

I would agree that DVI/HDMI would be my first choice, but if the manual says no..... I don't see why it would however. I could see the issue with the PC sound sync issue, but with DVI to HDMI, sound is not an issue. I have not had any issues with my Plasma and 3 different video cards (both Nvidia and ATI), so these issues are new to me.

To my knowledge VGA is digital. However like component, it is analog and converted back to digita at the displayl.. I did not see any difference between games, internet/text with VGA or HDMI. Playing back HD video was a bit better with HDMI, but nothing to write home about. I will probably go back to DVI/HDMI when I get a HDMI switch. But VGA works quite well as a secondary connection IMO..

Hello again, sorry to bring this topic back but I have crucial concern that I'd like to understand more. I've read that it is possible to "break" your HDTV by sending it the wrong resoultions. I really don't know anything about this so if some people can help explain, it'd be much appreicated. I'll just try numbering questions that'd help me understand this more, instead of a paragraph.

1) Which specific resoultions would harm an HDTV, will it vary depending on the HDTV?

2) Am I allowed to send resoultions different to that of the HDTV's video modes? 1080p, 1080i and 720p. (By the way what are the resoultions to these video modes? )

3) Are there certain HDTV's that are immune to this possibility?

4) Various gaming programs give me the option to change the resoultion, will selecting a resoultion different from my home screen cause problems?

I plan on getting a Sony LCD 32"-37" to make sure I get true 1080p, however I'll only try to use a 720p for PC to HDTV, will be using a DVI to HDMI connection for best quality display and will make sure my video card is Nvidia or ATI since they have HDTV support. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp.

1.None, its a matter of the wrong timing. You should always send an hdtv its native resolution for the best results (Except maybe a rpcrt that is 1080i native, then you can also send 480p for text applications)

2. Again, forget video modes...send the hdtv native resolutions.

3. Doesnt really matter, you wont have a problem if you are sending the sony its native resolution.

4. Yes. But more than that, its the games that must run at certain resolutions that cause problems (Thanks for that Sid Meier) As I have reffered you to in the past, check here for hdtv compatable games:

Overall a good place to post questions about pc games and hdtvs:
