Connecting SONY HDTV to PC

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am getting totally confused as I am getting mixed messages. Perhaps someone can sort this out for me.

I have a SONY KDF-60XS955 Grand Wega LCD HDTV and new Dell XPS 600 with a media centre with NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS and a dual TV Tuner with remote control. The Sony TV and the PC has a S-Video port available. I have been trying to connect the TV to the PC via the S-Video but haven't been successful. I don't see the computer on the television. Some people tell me it is posssible to connect the HDTV to a PC and some tell me it is not.
First of all, is it possible to do this and if so, does this video card on the computer support HDTV?
Also, would an S-Video cable work and do I need to download any other software?
Please HELP,
Thanks

Yes you can. For starters I would recommend using the DVI output from your VC instead of S-video. Resolution and diplay quality with DVI (digital) is much better than S-Video (analog). PC/VGA next (if TV has it) and S-Video last. Your TV has HDMi and no DVI so you would need a DVI to HDMI cable (or if you already have a DVI cable, just a DVI to HDMI adapter for the TV end). You can also view HD with the proper resolution selected with DVI. I use my built in HD OTA tuner in my Z555 MC PC to view/record HD to my computer/HP plasma.

Well if I didn't confuse you more than help, there can be many issues concerning your connection issue (With the S-video cable for now), verify the 2nd monitor option is active after connecting TV. Just right click your desktop, properties, and settings. You can also verify resolution and RR here as well. With S-video, start with the lowest resolution option (like 640x480) and RR to 60. If you go to DVI or VGA, you resolution options will increase quite a bit and improve.

Make sure you have the latest Nvidia drivers for yor VC. You can also download a display tool for autosensing and configuring your PC display or monitor (mine came with my PC). They use to have a freeware version that was pretty good at majorgeeks.com, but not sure if it is still posted.

I don't see anything stating your display is "Not PC Compatible", so it should work.

If the maxium resolution your video card supports is higher than 1280x720, then it can support HD resolutions. Don't use s-video, it does not support HD! You need to use the video card's VGA or DVI connection assuming that the same connection on the TV is available.
