Hey. Im sending this email to you because it looks like you know the most here. I was just wondering if my screen is hdcp and has dvi plug, can i plus my ps3 and get sound. i also have a tv card in my computer, in which i would be able to plug the av cable. But will all i have to do be plus my ps3 via a hdmi-dvi cable to my monitor and plug the av cable to my computer, that way i will get sound too. This is the screen i will get:Samsung SyncMaster 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor (2232BW). I also have an hdmi input in my computer. Would i work if i pluged my ps3 to my computer via hdmi cable? Would that be the most convinient? And how would i get my ps3 going if that were so. I mean what would i have to do.

Yes your monitor specs say the DVI is HDCP compatable. Using that input with stereo audio cable will give you sound and picture.

I would doubt that connecting the PS3 through the computer will work. I would recommend getting a DVI selector switch.

The built in speakers will work. Use the headphone output on your computer.

Cause i heard that a scren must be hdcp to be used with ps3. So your suggesting that if i bought a hdmi-dvi cable and plugged the av cables to a stereo and played with the ps3 setting then i could get sound and picture? Dont forget the model id be using would be Viewsonic VX2245. Appreciate the help!

You are talking about watching movies and for that it would be correct if it does not support HDCP. It should work with it for games.

nope, games don't require HDCP. this is a fact.

HDCP is designed so people watching movies can't easily copy it's content. Imagine if someone made a device that took an HDMI input and spat out an unencrypted perfect copy of the movie. If anyone did make that, they wouldn't get HDCP compliance and the movies either wouldn't play in the first place or they'd play with crappy quality.

The same doesn't old true of games. No one cares if you make a perfect digital movie of your gameplay, they'd just think you're a nerd. Games don't require HDCP.

thx. too bad i sold my old screen, i was sure from what i had read and manypeople saying that it doesnt work for them cuz no hdcp. Either way, the new 0screen im buying has 8000:1 contrast instead of 700:1, even though i know we can only feel the difference up to 2000:1. One quesion though. I will be using a dvi to hdmi cable to plug the ps3 to my screen, and i want to get sound as well. I have speakers that have a headphone input and they have a cable that ur suposed to plug to ur computer. If i got a Y female to RCA female cable and used that with the av cable that comes with the ps3 and changed my ps3 settings, will that work for me, to get sound and audio. Appreciate ur help.

will it really make a difference if a monitor has 2000:1 OR 1000:1 CONTRAST RATIO?
