Default (from a newb)the best cable connection for my new radeon x700 pro agp vivo card?

hi, i have a 60"sony wega 3lcd rear proj hdtv (KDF-E60A20), directv HD receiver, sony dvd home theatre system (DAV-FR8), and I am trying to hook up my pc to it mainly to watch videos from my pc on the hdtv as well as get the best video capturing possible; i have a p4 prescott 3.2 ghz, 1 gig kingston valueram, ati aiw 9600xt; i currently connect via the s video (in and out) since the video card doesnt have any digital connections; so i bought the radeon x700 pro vivo 256MB agp card (i hope it's a good decision), but the cables that came with it are not for the best connection, ie. svideo, svideo to component adapter, dvi to vga adapter; the card has 3 ports in the back:1 vga, 1 dvi, and 1 svideo;

what cable should i buy to get the best picture quality from and to the sony hdtv-pc?

thank you

Composite or SVideo can only carry 480i analog NTSC. There are NO cards with HD input ability. Since your TV has no VGA input, you need a graphics card that can output DVI or Component.

You can buy a transcoder that will convert VGA to Component, but they cost as much as a new card.

hi RSawdey

thank you for responding to my question

yes, the currently installed card ati aiw 9600xt doesnt have dvi out but the new card that i recently bought (radeon x700 pro vivo agp video capture edition) does have dvi out as well as vga out; it also has an svideo port but i think it's for the input port since there's a cable which came with the card with component on 1 end and svideo on the other end
so if i install that card, i can go buy a dvi - component cable which will allow me to viiew hd clips from my pc properly, right?

but on the input signal side from the hd receiver, it's still going through svideo even tho the other side of the cable is component; which card can you recommend that has component in? or that x700 pro agp is the best that i can do right now with current available technology?

thanks again

As I said, there is NO card with Component in... if you'll read your manual I think you might find those component connections are for OUTPUT. There are NO inputs for HD over Component or HDMI/DVI... only way to get an HD signal into your PC is via Firewire, because it's still compressed. HD input would not only require a very fast A/D converter, but also a real-time MPEG2 encoder - NOT cheap! All stored HDTV is compressed with MPEG2, Component & HDMI/DVI are the decompressed stream at 20 to 40 times the size of the compressed stream.

ok, so the capturing part i can't do anything about, but regarding the output, if i were to buy the dvi-component cable and use it on the dvi output on the x700 card, the picture should be much better right?

see, i'm trying to find out if i should keep the x700 pro card or just stick wtih the ati aiw 9600xt; right now, it's still not been taken out of the box yet; if it wont improve my setup, then i''d rather spend the 200 bucks elsewhere, that's all
