Default Crazy idea? Is this possible?

I am new to HDTV, but will be purchasing a whole new entertainment system for my home soon. My question is:

Can I "broadcast" my PC monitor image to a specific channel (like channel 3) so that at any time, I can turn a tv (standard or hdtv) to that channel to see my pc screen?

Iknow I can get a signal combiner that could work for a standard video signal (although I haven't tried it). Is there something like this for HD...

Default PC output on TV

The new HDTV's have numberous inputs(PC,DVI,HDMI,Component etc on the back). The TV screen can be switched with the remote control to these different inputs and display what is connected to those inputs on the screen. You can watch the PC output by switching to the input connector it is plugged into. You can hook the PC to the TV PC input or if you have a newer video card with DVI you can hook it to the DVI input. Use the TV remote to switch the screen to those inputs and the PC output will be displayed.

but then I will need to run a separate cable for all of my tv's right? I would go from the pc to an hdtv splitter which would then go out on a seperate cable to each tv. My problem is that the house is only wired with one cable for each tv. I am trying to get away from running an additional cable to each room.

In short there is such a product, but it is used by the broadcast industry and you probably can't get one. There are no HD modulators like there are for the NTSC system at this time as far as I know. As they develop more HD cameras for survelance I'm sure they will develop a consumer version sometime in the future. Also there is not a video card for your PC that will output HD on any channel that I'm aware of.

This is for your home...your hooking up / have eight TVs?

So, you want the PC to be displayed on any and all of the TVs, if they are on channel 3, correct?

I don't know how it could be done for a specific channel, but I could see it for an audio / video input.

Perform a search on the internet for Blonder Tongue. They made the devices that assinged the digital channel (14.1) for Best Buys HD content to be accessible through the RG-6 behind the HD televisions in their stores. Also, some video scalors may have that ability...visit this link:

Of course, if you can get your ATSC signal on RF over Coax, you'll need ATSC digital tuners to get it off again... you couldn't see that signal with an old analog NTSC TV.

Beastslayer, if you have any more information on thye model number of the Blonder Tongue device they used or a link, it would be appreciated. I went to the BT site and could not find a device that would modulate a component or DVI/HDMI signal to a DTV channel like 14.1. I found a lot of transcoders and other devices, but no modulators. Most of them use the broadcast standard 44 Mhz IF as their input, which does no good without a modulator. Zenith has such a modulator: ATSC DTV Modulator but it is very expensive. Then you have to combine it with a transcoder another expensive device.

I havn't paid close attention, but a number of WI-FI devices are starting to appear capable of distributing video in the same manner as a wireless computer network. Things are changing rapidly!
