Default WMC does not play protected content through Dell HDMI port

Hi,

I recorded premium channel movies on a Dell Inspiron n5110 laptop.
I used a SiliconDust HD Home Rum CableCard tuner.
The movies play fine on the laptop screen.
When I plug in into the TV via it's HDMI port, it does not play back the premium channels recordings.
This is the message.
"Display Driver Error - The video playback device does not support playback of protected content."

Please help.

Thanks.

Core i3 Intel HD, I guess.

I actually did try to do a driver update via the Intel HD application in the lower right corner. And it said that the display driver is custom or something like that. Do you think that Dell maybe makes their own laptop display drivers and messes it up? Maybe they don't have "liscenses" to play over HDMI in contrast to like if you build your own desktop with a Core i3?

I have a desktop that has an Intel Core i5 (which should be similar but just faster right?) and I can use the DVI port on my motherboard as well as the hdmi port on an nVida 9600 GPU card.

When you connect the laptop to the TV, is WMC already running or do you start WMC after connecting to the TV? Are you using an extended desktop or mirroring? Have you tried starting WMC on the laptop display, then dragging it to the TV?

While connected on screen duplication, it only plays “non-copy protected” stuff. Attaching the TV while “copy-protected” content is already playing just kills the program and gives that same message.

But interestingly, I tried your extended desktop idea. Copy-protected recordings and Live TV, plays in the windowed mode, as well as maximized on the TV.

If you want to upgrade your video drivers, just go to Intel and download the Intel 3000 HD drivers.

Cool did it work?

I'm interested if the new drivers worked at all for you?

in my experience i've had similar problems... It's been due to DRM. same thing happens many times when i'm trying to play iTunes purchased media and play through an ipad to tv conversion. whether i use iPad to VGA or iPad to HDMI, the same shows/movies won't work.

If you figure this sucker out I'm interested in finding.

Does this work with other media players? Try VLC or XBMC?
