Default Tablet PC/Android/iPad Section?

So super duper mods... How's a bout a tablet section? We have Computers/HTPC and gaming etc, but nothing about tablets? Seems to me that the way things are going we might want to add a section were tablet owners can talk about the latest and greatest and even tips and tricks to get HD onto your own little device.

I'm fairly new to the tablet realm, but now having mine for almost a month I'm loving it. I got an Acer Iconia A500. It's an android tablet. The main thing I love about it is the peripheral support. Full sized USB input plug to add a thumb drive, external HDD, or even yes a keyboard. Basically makes it a netbook.

My problem is, the formats that it can read are all over the map and they don't always work. I dumped a few videos I formatted for a PSP and some worked and some didn't. Still trying to figure out the best format to use to watch movies. or the best program to get them there.

There are about 5 people in my office with iPads and a ton of my friends have them. My main reason for going Android was price and functionality. (Not that there's anything wrong with iPad.)

The thing that is going to blow the doors open maybe later this year on Android is version 3.1 which is already hitting devices. There are a lot of improvements, but the biggest thing to me is the increased usb peripheral support. Supposedly 3.1 makes the usb port a fully functioning input port. Apparently even with the capacity to use a mouse and more. Apps don't really exist that truly take advantage of that, but that will change.

Nice!

I had a small Toshiba satellite laptop for a year or so that I never used. It sat in the case for 90% of the time. Since I got this tablet, I've had it on me non-stop for a month. And I'm using it all the time. Not that I feel it will completely replace laptops. But for what 75-80% of the people who just want a simple way to check e-mail, play brainless games, and browse the web, this is it.

As I type this, my tablet is sitting next to my desktop in a case that stands it up and a keyboard plugged into the USB. It's basically a laptop already.

the biggest reason i'm avoiding android tablets, is honeycomb just isn't... right. It was an update to a phone OS, that didn't translate well to a tablet OS.

it's painfully obvious that many of the applications on android market were not made with honeycomb in mind.

Why an ipad?? Overpriced and under performing. Virtually no content creation, no usb ports, no flash, no webcam, no office apps, and software apps - apple only. Talk about an overhyped overpriced tether to the apple store. Or were you just pulling our leg?

there is nothing under performing about them, unless you ment other than the hardware. They perform quite nicely, and in almost all comparison reviews; they are just simply faster.

Oblio, if you've ever seen my posts you know I hate macs and was a huge android supporter; i've already explained my issues with honeycomb and the android market. Honeycomb just isn't intuitive as a tablet OS i've been able to play with a couple of them when i've gone to my local BB.

the simple fact is that the ipad is the industries main tablet; everything is built for the ipad, and everything is designed around the ipad, every accessory, application, or service. Most games are designed for the ipad, with a few of them getting ports to android.

Android barely has a share of that, and while the marketplace for android is alot more free and less restrictive (for developers) it's quality is alot fewer in between.

this is a decent unbiased review.

edit:

I was just looking up both devices (example the xoom and the ipad 2)

the ipad 2 does have a 'webcam' it has the ability for video chat and the xoom is more expensive than the Ipad 2.. there went that argument. ;P

Sorry, you can't have my credit card number.

Now, if you had bought an Android tablet, you could find 3D games FOR FREE!!!!!!
