How can you compare someone downing shots and beers for 4 hours, then getting in a 7000 pound pickup truck drunk to go back to work on transmissions the same as someone surfn the web for 4 hours.???

Did you actually read any of my posts? You have obviously missed the point.

Please cite for me in the video at what point does the report focus on the dangers of drinking and driving. It doesn't. Please site for me in the video where it focuses on the dangers of building bad products. It doesn't. Please site for me in the video where it tells us exactly what these four men do at the Ford plant. It doesn't. The only logical conclusion you can make is that the ENTIRE point of that investigation was to point out wasteful employees in a time when automakers are financially troubled. Next point, please tell me how much money Ford received out of the bail-out. None. Only GM and Chrysler will receive money. Ford opted out. So the ENTIRE ONLY POSSIBLE conclusion we can make from this SPECIFIC report is that the reporter wants you to see that these guys are wasting company money. That's it. (From that standpoint ONLY, wasting time on the internet is similar)

NOW, setting all of that aside, getting drunk on the job and/or plowing into a pedestrian on the way back to work from a 4 hour binge drink is nothing at all like goofing off on the web. I'm not stupid.

You seem to have missed my other points. Such as, what about a fireman who spends all night boozing it up and gets called to a fire? Is that okey-dokey? What about an airline pilot? How about a Oil Tanker Captain? Maybe a Cop? Are you attempting to imply that these guys are the ONLY people in on the planet who got drunk at work?

So you're implying then that if I show a video where 4 postal workers go steal a car, we can all naturally assume that the entire Post Office is in the business of stealing, stripping, and selling cars? Uh, no. That's idiotic.

Further, where did I defend these guys? I've said in almost every post in this thread that these guys should be fired. I'd love to see them humiliated and relegated to being street sweepers. These guys are disgusting.

I never even defended the UAW in all this. I've said multiple times that I could not care less if the entire UAW dissapeared.

I also never directly compared drinking to goofing off on the web. You and someone else did that as an assumption. Something that has been running rampant on this thread.

Am I to understand that you would prefer to let ignorance and misconception rule the thread? If so, have at it, I'll leave the thread and never post again in it. So far, everything I've posted has been accurate.

Title of the thread:

"UAW workers hard at work." - Fact, the video doesn't even say if they are UAW workers at all. You all assumed they are because they work at a Ford plant. But the truth is there are workers there who are not with the UAW. Granted, they also very well could be UAW, but we don't know that. IT'S NOT MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO!

Next assumption:

The general assumption after that was that these drunk idiots are on the line building cars. #1, the plant in the video doesn't even make cars, they make transmissions. #2, the video never mentions what ANY of them actually do at the plant. #3, the only mention of a job is that someone might have to fix a machine. #4, there is no mention at all if that someone is even one of these 4 guys.

Now, maybe I'm not making myself very clear. I'm not supporting the UAW or the guys in this video. If anything, consider this an indictment of the reporter for doing such a crappy job of getting details straight. All we know from this report is that 4 or more guys drive from the plant to the bar, waste time, get drunk, drive back, and then go home. Why didn't the reporter mention the danger of driving drunk at all? What if those particular 4 guys are members of the all too fantastic Job Bank at the plant? What if none of them actually do anything at the plant and all they do is sit around at the plant reading comics and playing scrabble?

And finally, what the HECK is wrong with questioning the news? Whay can't I sit here and question what I'm being told by the news media? Am I supposed to be a lemming and just go along with the news media as if they EVER get ANYTHING right? Better yet, why are we not accusing the reporter of putting together a slanted report that somehow leaves people with the impression that this is all part of a days work for the UAW and that Ford's fine with it? He should have done a better job explaining things.

It's pretty funny that someone thinks they won't get fired for this.

As if the union will say - Yeah, they were out drinkin' for 4 hours during the work day, but the union contract says that's OK.
