Your model is a great deal also, it's really fast with it's 300hp rating. Why can't they just drop a 400hp 5.4n/a into it to really compete? (probably because it would destroy a Shelby!)
I absolutely love the new Shelby Cobras, and you really can't complain about the performance if you take their curb weight into account. I thought i'd never see a day when a Mustang would not only hit the 2 ton mark, but puke all over it in convertible form. I have to say that from a aesthetic perspective, the new Mustangs in general are unbelievably beautiful. After all, it is the car that George Sr from the short lived sitcom "Arrested Development" said you could hump the hood of.

It would be nice if they would drop in a larger engine, but i'm not sure they have anything larger that is of much use right now. A larger engine would also surely have a huge impact on fuel economy, and would likely force people to pay a gas guzzler tax, which is not good. It is also likely that they don't have a larger v8 ready for use in a Mustang like application. The truck version of the 5.4 is designed for hauling, and not hauling ass. It has a redline of around just 5000rpms or so. Even if they would redesign this engine for a Mustang application, it would have other costs such as getting it emissions certified and so on. I'm just disappointed that the new upcoming redesigned Mustang for 2010 is going to feature the same v8 engine. I was hoping for a bit more than the 300-310hp they are currently projecting.

Unfortunately I think performance is going to go by the wayside real soon. Start thinking EcoBoost turbo's and smaller engines which is really not so bad.
My disappointment in the Shelby is the weight but of course to make it safe and light would make it cost the same as a Vette (which it is actually pretty close to in price anyway).
Oh well, we'll see how this plays out, who knows what things will look like a year from now .

I don't think performance willl go by the way side - like you said you're gonne start seeing turbo'd V6's to get the HP needed. I believe camaro will offer a V6 with 300 HP in addition to a V8.

That GM direct port v6 is a real winner.

I would own a Shelby Cobra anyday before a Corvette. First of all, it has a back seat. Second, the list of mods for the Shelby are nearly endless for a reasonable price.

I am actually pretty excited at the possibility of turbo charged engines, but I just hope that Ford will never stop using a V8. Even if turbos make a lot of sense in terms of performance and fuel economy, NOTHING sounds better than a nice large displacement v8. Sure you can make 340-400hp from a twin turbo Duratec 35/37 V6, but it won't sound as nice as that 4.6 litre 24 valve V8 does.

I agree completely, even though I really like small displacement high power engines nothing beats the sound of a proper V8. V6's with an opened up exhaust always sound flatulent!

how about V8's with an opened up exhaust They sound much better now - not quite so rough - I had just put these on the day before.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

I put some upgrades to the interior though... Added a DVD player for the people in the back seat. Upgraded the head unit to allow me to play my iPod.
