They have sure gotten themselves into a mess lately. However all manufacturers actually do the same thing. If a "recall" is safetly related, it is always called a recall. If a "recall" is due to something that doesn't necessarily affect the safety of the vehicle, it is called a customer satisfaction program even if the reliability of a part is in question.

Sadly,,those pumps are made in the USA. Made to the Japanese specs, but manufactured stateside. And typical Toyota they will go after the manufacturer for making a faulty product - even though their own QA inspected and accepted the pumps. In order for the manufacturer to stay in business, they will have to accept Toyota's terms of redemption, pay for the liability, be under severe scrutiny for X amount of months just to get back into good grace with Toyota. Be a good time to buy a Ford.

I make it no secret that I am a huge Ford fan. Under Alan Mulally, this is a company that has completely turned itself around to become the only American car company to not take a government bailout. At the same time, Ford has really turned their quality control around. Ford used to be average, but now they are more and more rating at the top of the pack beating out some of their best foreign rivals.

That said, I would still buy a Toyota before I would buy something from Government Motors or that Chrysler company that has gone through TWO bailouts. I really like those new Toyota 4Runners as they are the only REAL midsize SUV left unfortunately. Every other midsize SUV has now gone to the unibody construction which basically makes it a car on a lift and steroids.
