Default The 2012 Ford Focus!

http://www.caranddriver.com/news/car...hotos_and_info

Looks like Ford just released some more details for it. I have to say that it looks darn nice and I can't believe that we will get a 242hp Ecoboost Focus here in the US finally. Bad news is that it appears the new Focus will top as high as $30k which is a lot of money for a compact car that has traditionally been for economy use.

The best news for enthusiasts, of course, is the turbocharged Focus ST, the first U.S.-sold performance compact from Ford since the 2002–2004 SVT Focus. It packs a 247-hp, 266-lb-ft EcoBoost four-banger and a six-speed manual transmission. Let's take a second and pay major respect to whatever Ford executive or focus (har!) group made this happen. Still, we may have more pleading to do if a follow-up to the even-hotter Focus RS appears, as the previous generation didn’t come here. The ST we will see has been promised to pack a taut suspension, hyper-crisp steering, and a growl to wake Zeus, claims we’ll wait to confirm until we drive it.

That is the rumor, but I don't know what to think. With Ford being in better financial shape, I suppose that Ford now has a bit more room in their budget to pursue limited production "halo" vehicles. However, it isn't going to be cheap.

My big concern is going to be torque steer with this FWD monster. It is one thing to have a 240hp japanese lawn mower engine that doesn't hit peak torque till 7200rpms, and another thing to have a turbocharged monster that hits peak torque at like 1500rpms.

My biggest fear is that there are going to be some nanny devices that are going to keep you from having too much fun. Look at how the Mazdaspeed 3 limits torque in the first several gears because they are afraid someone will kill themself, or blow up the drivetrain trying.

They claim to have a new system that virtually eliminates that!

I just priced a new 2012 Focus using Ford's build your own utility for fun, and boy does this baby get expensive when equipped the way I wanted it. It wasn't even fully loaded, and the MSRP came out to $27215. It appears that Ford is going German as they start with an attractive base price, but really lets it add up once you start adding a few options.

Ouch!
I think I read that was the philosophy behind it. You can get whatever you want as long as you got the $$$.

that thing looks butt ass ugly, and it looks like ford is trying to take design cues from Austin martin. out of all the fords i've seen the focus is ugly, hell even my dads 1998 honda civic looks better and is easier to work on than that. i mean come on i want something i can actully work on, that things is probably completly computerized, and you guys got to remember if its digital than that is the first thing to go out

Eh... max torque probably won't happen till at least 2000rpm, and I'm gonna go ahead and guess that's it's gonne be a pretty flat torque curve. Shouldn't be a problem.

I dunno man.......

Either way, it is definately going to be too much torque for asian drivers to handle. Luckily for you, your older Mustang only makes like 150hp

A nice smooth torque curve is easier to handle than a peaky one if you're really pushing it. IMO at least.
