1966 Duesenberg Model D Concept Car

Seller’s Description:
1966 Duesenberg Concept Car, the last real Duesenberg. Only one prototype produced. Massive size and ultimate luxury, every option imagineable. This Duesenberg was created under the auspices of Augie Duesenberg and designed by Virgil Exner and built by Ghia. The provenance is excellent from day one. First time in over 50 years that this car is publicly being offered for sale.

It was on display at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg museum for 30 years until it went to the Bortz Auto Collection where it has been for the past 15 years. The car is still almost completely original and check out the video to see how nice it drives down the road.

Many people (myself included) consider the 1964 GTO the car that started the Muscle Car Era. But the GTO was not the only "big engine in a mid-sized car." Dodge had a true Muscle Car offering for the 1964 model year but it is overlooked because it was never marketed as a Muscle Car. I am talking about the 1964 "Street Wedge" Dodge 440:

Just the standard for the time chrome moldings on the sides of the car. Nothing to attract a young buyer.

One step above a spartan "taxi cab" interior with a bench seat. No buckets as an option.

Here is where "the rubber meets the road." When you ordered the Street Wedge you got Dodge's 10.3 CR 426 CI 365 HP engine AND a 4 speed transmission. Also included was the engine dress up kit as seen in the above photo.

So . . . big chromed out engine, lots of HP and Torque, runs on premium fuel, unsilenced air cleaner, 4 speed transmission standard. So why didn't Dodge sell 30,000 of these cars? Well . . .
