The Devils in the details . . .

Both RWL tires and Super Sport wheels debuted on the 1969 Chevelle SS 396 as standard equipment. This is a 1968 Chevelle SS 396 so it should have redline tires (standard) and either Rally Wheels (optional), Full Wheel Covers (optional) or just hubcaps (standard).

Correct tires with optional Rally Wheels

1968 Chevelle SS 396 Convertible with N95: Simulated Wire Wheel Covers

NOTE: The Grille is incorrect. Should be Black like the ones above. This Grille is from a regular Chevelle, not an SS 396.

1971 Challenger Pace Car Convertible

This is the actual Pace Car that crashed as it left the track. The damage has been repaired.

It is interesting to note that at the height of the Muscle Car Era - this car has no engine callout emblems anywhere on it. You would only know it's a Boss 302 by lifting the hood.

Agreed Lee.

That is strange about the lack of engine emblems.

AFAIK, the 1969/1970 Boss 302 Eliminator and the 1970 Superbird were the only two muscle cars not to have any engine callout emblems.

RWL tires were an option on the 428 CJ 1968 Mustang GT. But this car has the wrong tires. They should say Goodyear Polyglas only. No tire size.

1968.5 428 Mustang GT Production Numbers:

SportsRoof: 1,044
Convertible: 34
Coupe: 221

TOTAL: 1,299

Ford built 317,404 Mustangs in 1968.

Lee,

Thought this could be the car in your post.
