Google Dick Lang and you will get the answer. According to my friend
(the owner) the Camaro was from the beginning a race car. Lots of info
on that website, have fun.

1967 Hemi Coronet 500 Promotional Photo

The Dodge literature says the Hemi will only be available (in 1967) in the Coronet R/T and the Charger . . .

So how much did Ford underrate the 428 SCJ when it advertised it at 335 HP?

That´s right, a gold star for you. I watch it race in the early
´70´s , and the driver had a long fight with a Ford Capri (UK). The
Camaro was always first on the long straight and then the Capri
would catch him after a few corners.

Do you remember I had said that my mother worked at the Top Of The Park resturant in the Port Authority Bldg. at the NY Worlds Fair. Well I just came across this photo of it.
