More popular (and more expensive) then the basic SS 396, the L79 option for the 1967 Chevelle.

L79 325 hp Turbo-Fire 327 engine, 4,048, $198.05

L35 325 hp Turbo-Jet 396 engine, 2,565, $182.95

NOTE: What cost $15.10 in Sept. 1966 would cost $116.38 in Nov. 2018.

A one-of-none Grand Prix convertible. It takes SERIOUS money to make a conversion like this. I like it. Anyone know the year?

A very rare car: 1967 L78 SS396 Chevelle Convertible. Chevy only built 617 L78 SS 396s for the 1967 model year. Convertibles were about 5% of all the 1967 SS396 Chevelles built so using that % we can guesstimate that approx. 30 were built with the L78 396/375 HP engine option.

Another rare car: 1966 396 Malibu SS Convertible built and sold in Canada. The color; Plum Mist Metallic was not available on US built and sold Chevelles until the following year (Royal Plum) and was a one year only color.

It looks like a big car doesn't it? But looks are deceiving. The 1962 409/409 HP Biscayne with 4 speed has a curb weight of approx. 3750 lbs. As this one has the heater delete option that reduces the weight down to about 3700 lbs. Only 14 pounds more than a 1970 Chevelle SS396 coupe with 4 speed (3686 lbs)

This car was ordered with only 4 options: 409/409 HP engine, 4 speed and 4:11 Posi rear (4.11 gears is one option while the Posi rear was another - mandatory with 4.11s). Probably a former drag car.
