Default Questions in regards to my MP3 working with my setup

I have an older cd player in dash in the car and it doesnt have any mp3 capabilties, only cd changer, cd, fm. I have a Cadence pre-amp eq and it has a cd auxillary , or rather 2 rca's on the rear of it for cd but it has no auxillary input or headphone jack on the front of the preamp.

Yesterday using an rca plug on one end with a headphone plug on the other, I plugged it into the preamp and the headphone end into my little coby mp3 player and it played, however, the volume was not as loud as my normal stereo system. I was thinking that was so because the preamp isnt a direct source of power, is that so?

My 2 amps are plugged into the preamp, then the preamp goes into the in dash cd player. I was basically trying to make what I had work since I had ran out of CD R's.

Educate me guys, lol
