Four-abreast Top Fuel, Funny Car exhibitions planned for NHRA Carolinas Nationals

Quote:
For the first time in NHRA history, modern Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars will race four lanes, four wide, unleashing a powerful assault of 28,000 horsepower on spectacular zMax Dragway.

In what is sure to be a must-see demonstration of the ultimate in high-horsepower performance, four NHRA Top Fuel dragsters and four NHRA Funny Cars will race in a four-wide configuration during separate races in a special exhibition event just prior to the final round of the NHRA Carolinas Nationals Sunday, Sept. 20.

I can not imagine the noise level with 4 nitro cars racing at once.

Supposedly the 2nd loudest man made sound on earth is 2 top fuel dragsters racing (the first being the shuttle launching)

How much louder will it be for 4 top fuel dragsters?

Wow,
I tell you what though, I don't think they should do it, it's way to dangerous!!!
They better make sure they back them down a whole bunch.

There is a barrier between lanes 2 and 3. It is two complete drag strips side by side.

The idea is to have the ability to show drag racing live instead of recorded (like NASCAR). If there is an oil down - they just move to the "clean" strip and continue racing.

On one of the Pinks All Out - they held it at Zmax and they did run 4 ten second cars at once.

To be honest - it looked silly, as I am so used to seeing only 2 cars run - in fact that was the first time I ever saw 4 cars run.

It looks like what you see coming out of a toll booth on an Interstate.

Massey, Neff shine in four-wide Charlotte exhibitions

Quote:
Although four-wide racing was a sometimes feature at match races in the late 1960s and early 1970s, it had never been run at an NHRA national event. The zMax facility was built with two side-by-side dragstrips – each pair of two lanes separated by a guardwall – making it practical for these exhibition races that unleashed nearly 30,000 horsepower at once. I saw Funny Cars and Top Fuelers do it last weekend, I agree.
(especially the fact that the one lane was really bad)

Going from 2 cars to 4 cars would be double the energy, so 3db louder should be about right
