Default Monster going after Blue Jeans

Looks like Monster is concerned about a couple of cables sold by Blue Jeans Cable.

Thanks, everyone!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, everybody! Kurt from Blue Jeans Cable here...

Many, many thanks for all the words of support. We are enormously heartened by it all and everyone here at the shop appreciates it.

I see I've already been quoted at length, so I'll just add a few notes.

After reviewing information from the USPTO, it is now crystal-clear that the Monster threat of litigation is completely frivolous. I am writing to their counsel to request further information in support of their claim, but given what I have seen, it is very hard to imagine how any information they could supply could possibly patch the holes in their position. Monster's counsel tried to "hide the ball" in his demand letter, and the facts which he failed to disclose are actually quite embarrassing for Monster. If they proceed with litigation, it will be an act of breathtaking idiocy. That's not to say they won't do it, of course; some lawyers are given to self-destructive behavior.

I am just finishing up my letter and will probably not get it sent till Monday. When I do, I will release a copy to Gene at Audioholics, who has indicated he will post it right away, so you'll be able to see an update there.

Again, thanks from me, my wife, and the whole crew. If we do get sued, you may rest assured that we will give as good as we get.

Kurt

I had no idea that all HDMI cable stock, except the Blue Jeans Belden cable, was made in China.

Where Does HDMI Cable Come From?

How's that for arrogance? Monster thinking that a legit quality cable provider would need to copy their design to produce a good cable. It flys in their face considering (I strongly suspect) BJC's main target consumer is the one who does NOT want Monster cables.

When will they be suing Monoprice for producing cables too cheaply?

It appears Monster Cable also has problems with the Green Monster at Fenway being called the Green Monster so it is not surprising they would be concerned with similar looking connectors. I've never been a MC hater but they do seem to be showing their ass with all this.

I feel the same way, basically. If you want to buy their cables, go for it. It's your money.
But the notion that BJC wants folks to think their cable is like a Monster cable, is ridiculous.
I suspect if you did a wide survey of cable manufacturers many would have similar connectors, and there are probably a fair number of junkie Monster look-alike knock-offs.
But of course they want to go for the real competition. Kind of a compliment to BJC that way, if a bit back-handed.

RE: Your letter, received April Fools' Day

Dear Monster Lawyers,

Let me begin by stating, without equivocation, that I have no interest whatsoever in infringing upon any intellectual property belonging to Monster Cable. Indeed, the less my customers think my products resemble Monster's, in form or in function, the better...

Sincerely,

Kurt Denke

Perfect reply! April Fool's letter.. or in response to the April letter from the fools...

They would probably be rushing to scrap any cables they sell that look like the big M!

I have not seen a side by side comparison, pictures or otherwise...has anyone else?

I don't recall any BJCs having the 'turbine cuts' on the ground contact. I thought that was M's big trade-mark.

I always thought AR and one or two others look a lot more like Monsters.
