Default I have a question......

I was rearranging some furniture and disconnected my satellite coaxial cable from the wall jack. When I did this, I noticed some small sparks appeared.

I have had satellite since March 2007 but this the first time I have had a reason to disconnect it since it was installed.

I have connected and disconnected cable vision coaxial myriad times and never had this happen. Is what I experienced a common occurance with satellite?

Thanks.

NO. it is not supposed to spark in any way. only one thing may cause an audible crackling and or a very minor shock; that would be static electricity. beyond that, i would have it checked right away.

I don't know for sure how the sat guys get power to the LNBs, but it would not suprise me if they pick up 12Vdc from the cable box and send it up the coax to provide power. If so, that would expalin any small spark if it was off of the center conductor; if this is the case, they should warn you to turn off and/or unplug the box before changing any of the rf connections.
