Default new Cisco cable boxes spectrum supplied cards not working

I went the route of buying two cisco boxes one DVR and one HD. Got two cable cards from spectrum. Installed and called cable company activation line. Gave them the info Host ID and cable card ID. They send signals out and get confirmation of pairing and staging with green light. Problem is I get not TV channels. Just a message that I have been disconnected from cable service on the DVR and even less on the HD box. I just get 4 dashes. Not even a clock. Need help! tried multiple reboots.

Well the boxes are new to me but are older models. 8640HDC and 4640HDC2. Has any had any success buying boxes and using cable co. supplied cards? Its a great way of lowering your bill by $25 depending on how many boxes you have.
