I saw it in the theater and loved it. Got my HD-DVD copy last night and was able to watch a little bit. Looked AWESOME! I don't have a Blu Ray player, but I would figure it looks just as good. The movie itself is great, but remember it's based off of a graphic novel (comic book), so keep that in mind.

Saw it the other night. It was pretty amazing and it lived up to the hype. I highly recommend it.

I thought the movie was excellent. PQ was a little too grainy in my opinion. I also picked up Shooter ,PQ was superb!

The movie was better than the PQ, the pcm track was great. I'm not a big fan of grain and for that I would still have to rate the movie low even if it was directors intent. I would place the PQ below some of the other summer releases I've recently purchased such as Black Snake Moan. I would still recommend this movie. Because of the story, action and pcm track.

Default Jims Review of 300 on Blu-Ray

Frank Millerís epic masterpiece 300 on Blu-Ray disc should simply be mandatory to own this disc. My review of this excellent disc

The Movie: They were 300 men against a million. 300 is proof that classic storytelling will never go out of style. Based on Frank Millerís graphic novel of the battle of Thermopile in 480 B.C 300 is the incredible true story of bravery up against impossible odds. In 300 the massive Persian Empire has taken over massive portions of both Asia and Africa and now turns its attention to Greece. King Leonidas wishes to defend his nation but is unable to get the whole Spartan army to help so he brings together 300 of there best the meet Xerces hordes. Joined with 600 other Greeks they do much damage to there enemy. 300 is simply stunning in everyway. Virtually every shot of the movie is a work of art. 300ís most noteworthy aspect is its amazing action sequences. These are easily some of the most intense, violent, and downright kick ass action sequences ever seen in cinema. As Xerces sends troop after troop and weapon after weapon at the Spartans the strategy changes. The action uses a combination of effects and slow motion to show every detail of the killing blows. The Spartans show absolutely no mercy to the fallen. But donít think 300 is another dumb action flick. On the contrary 300 is simply one of the most beautiful stories ever told in cinema. Itís the story of a group of men willing to give up everything for the land and people they love to stand up against the unreasoning hordes and not to give into pressure or compromise. 300 has no major movie stars but every actor and actress in the movie gives magnificent performances. Gerard Butler in particular gives a fantastic performance as Leonidas. He has some of the best lines of dialog sometimes making smartass comments and yelling the best battle cries that could easily be said before any modern battle today. Another thing I highly admired about 300 is how unbelievably politically incorrect the movie is. The good guys are white westerners the bad guys are religious fanatics from the Middle East. The Persians even wear turbans. The message of 300 is even more right wing. Freedom is worth fighting for and defending and that the enemy should never be negotiated with only fought. The political scenes are even more politically incorrect then the battles. Anti-war politicians are all portrayed as slimly, corrupt, and under the payroll of the enemy. The pro-war politicians are brave, truth, and concerned about whatís right for their people. 300 glorifies western values and all it has given to the world. There is not a shred of the moral relativism found in way to much of Hollywood today. Truth is itís possible without those 300 men that western civilization would have died and democracy, aviation, and splitting the atom would have never happened. Iran has openly condemned the movie as Zionist anti-Iranian propaganda. I say if Islamofacists doesnít like it that makes me love it more. 300 is everything I love about movies. Its exciting, visually gorgeous, intelligent, politically incorrect, well acted, and just downright magnificent.

300 gets an A+ and my highest recommendation

How is the Blu-Ray?

Most worthy of note 300 has a highly unique visual style. It has extremely high contrast and lots of film grain. This gives it a dirty and more flat appearance then some of the better Blu-Rays. However the Blu-Ray gives the movie a perfectly adequate visual presentation with a healthy bit rate. Overall 300 looks as good as a movie with its style can look. Nothing in the world can substitute true high definition. It is a significant improvement over even the best DVD.

Video rating B+

While the video is good the audio is top notch. 300 simply rocked my speakers and filled the room. Presented in both uncompressed PCM and Dolby TrueHD. This is just the kind of wiz bang boom audio that will make the neighbors complain. Hear the thunder of the oncoming Persians and the amazing slash of Spartan blades in the best sound possible in a home theater.

Audio rating A+

300 also comes chock full of extras many of which are presented in high definition too. We get an audio commentary by Zack Snyder the brilliant director. Both in it and in several features we learn lots about adapting the graphic novel and the various filmmaking tricks. We get many features on the historical context of the movie as well. My only complaint is Warner choose to leave off the picture in picture version of the movie found on the HD-DVD. Many point out the lack of Profile 1.1 and secondary video decoders on Blu-Ray as the reason but Lionsgate was able to find a way around this problem by using the extra space to create a separate version for picture in picture. Warner should have done the same. An overall very good selection of extras

Extras rating B+

300 is the best movie to come out in years and this Blu-Ray edition simply fantastic. If you donít own this Blu-Ray stop reading this and go and buy it now. Right now.

MAybe I will get it after all lol
I was just going to netflix it.

It was funny, Entertainment Weekly a totally PC magazine didn't get why people liked it so much! lol
Maybe cuz people are tired of all that pc BULLSHIT?! Yeah that could be it!
I know this is not about 300, but that is one thing about Spiderman 3 that SO annoyed me. At the end of the movie it was like a therapy session. Bad guys weren't bad anymore. Everybody was crying.
Ugh.
I don't know why Hollywood thinks people like that crap. I guess their friends like it, so they think we will like it. WRONG!

300 sounds like a great movie. I haven't even seen it yet!

Hollywood is horribly out of touch with the American people. You can see that with every Oscar awards which gives all the awards to movies that were box office flops. 300 made a killing and is probably much more liked by the public then anything Hollywood will give Oscars to for this year. Truthfully if Hollywood had any credibilty 300 would get every award in the book but they don't. In Hollywoods mind a movie like 300 that is Exciting, Patriotic, Powerful, Moving, Pro-Democracy, Heroic = Mindless. While countless movies that are Boring, Anti-American, Pro-terrorism, morally bankrupt = Thoughtful. 300 is anti- everything Hollywood stands for and they hate it for that but I loved every minute of it.

Yes the movie was great and the sound was also great. I read that the movie was supposed to be grainy. That is how he wanted it to look. Is there any truth to that? someone know?

Thats true the grainy dirty look was entirely intentional creative decision by the movie makers. Frankly even a fan of the movie as big as myself found it a bit excessive but it does little to take away from the enjoyment.

I agree, I thought 300 was an excellent film. However, I did feel it was typically Hollywood in that it was a 'distortion' of the truth. Still, its a good film and looks glorious in HD.
