i have a pretty old rear projection hdtv. it's a mitsubishi ws-55511, it only has a single component input for hdtv and no hdmi. so what i was wondering is if i should get a calibration disc for it? i mean i've read about how much better your picture quality gets after calibration, but does that only apply to the new lcd/plasma tvs? will my rear projection see any noticeable difference? should i just save the 20 bucks and not worry about it?

ALL TV's benefit from a calibration using a disc. Some more than others but it is worth the investment.

You say "pretty old" rear projection. Have you ever PROPERLY cleaned the "guns" inside the cabinet and the mirror ? Your TV is one of the finest and easiest to care for and will last you a long , long time. Do a search on the AVS website on how to do this right, it's easy but you can really screw thins up if you don't learn how to do it. Your gonna love the difference a cleaning will do...like brand new !!!

Do two things:
* Clean the projection lenses. They face upwards and are dust magnets. Remove the back of the TV and you can't miss them. This alone will give your TV a new life. A microfiber cloth does the trick.
* Get a calibration disc. The SD DVE disc is designed for CRT type TVs and will give you another quantum boost in image quality when you calibrate.

Unplug the TV first!

Do not open a CRT based RPTV to clean it without unplugging it first.
