Hi,

I have been reading alot of posts and diagrams that have been posted by  "rbink" about multi hookups. And I saw a post and blog that really got my eye. Using Multiple Dishes for Directv HD (http://www.highdefinitionblog.com/?page_id=20). I have given this alot of thought and I really like the idea. As a side note: at 1 point I had 3 dishes on my roof. 1 for DirecTV for NFL games, 1 for Dish Network, and 1 for Sky Angel. I have since disconnected Dish Network and gone with DirecTV w/Total Choice Plus since you have to have a base package to get NFL Sunday Ticket. I have also kept Sky Angel too (lifetime pkg). (Did I metion that I worked for Time Warner Cable up until 6 months ago? ) Who ever had the best HD and DVR/PVR's - I was into it.

Anyway, I have been switching all of my equipment over to DirecTV DVR's and HD units. I also just switched out a broken Mitsibishi HDTV from Best Buy (under their "lemon policy") for a brand new Toshiba 52" DLP TV. I have a lot of rooms that I want to connect to DirecTV and I also have a OTA for local HD channels and as a back up for when I get rain fade on the dish.

I am looking for help on what would be the best ways to hook everything up. Wether it be with multi-switches and/or diplexers and/or multi-satellite dishes.

This is what I have to hookup:

:o
Room 1 - DirecTV HD (upgrading to HD DVR in 30 days) OTA for local HD
DVR R10 (for use with PIP)(may downgrade to Standard Receiver once HD DVR is in place.) OTA for back-up

Room 2 - DVR R10, OTA for back-up
- possibly adding HD or HD DVR receiver in 5 months for new HDTV and PIP. OTA for local HD

Room 3 - DVR R10, OTA for back-up
Room 4 - DVR R10, OTA for back-up (kids room)
Room 5 - DVR R10, OTA for back-up (kids room)

:banghead: Now you know why I need help.

I am open to any help that can be given. Diagrams are good too as I am a visual person.

Thanks for your help! :)

Check out www.18inch.com (http://www.18inch.com) . Lots of diagrams for multi-sat hook up's and other sat needs. I bought a couple of things from them in the past and the prices and shipping are not too bad. They are up in Defiance, Ohio so you may have to pay sales tax since you are in Ohio

Wow, that's alot of info and diagrams. Thanks Spiderman. I was looking for a site like that.

I guess I will still ask though what the best way is for connection. Is it better to have 2 or 3 (multiple) dishes or just use the 1 oval dish? What are the Pro's and Con's of each? Thx!

The single oval dish is the simple route and I'd only go with multiple dishes if there is some special reason to do so. Trees and other obstructions that keep a single dish from working being the most obvious.

I suppose you could go with three large dishes to help rain fade as well, but most people don't want three large dishes on their roof.
