Get an Insignia Blu-ray player for $129.99

I said it before, I'll say it again: Blu-ray won't really take off until you can buy a player for $99. We're not quite there yet, but we're close: Best Buy has the Insignia NS-2BRDVD Blu-ray player for $129.99 shipped (plus tax in most states).

That's just about the lowest price I've seen yet on a nonrefurbished, rebate-free player. (Actually, Walmart has a Magnavox model on sale for $128, but it's in-store only. I like stuff that gets brought to me.)

Looks like this is Best Buy's answer to the $128 Magnavox player Father's Day sale.

Yep. Walmart may provide some decent competition dealing with Blu-ray. That's good!

The lower end players are the ones will always be the lowest prices. The bigger picture is the better players are close behind. Remember when we didn't even have a BD player under $200?

So has that 2.0 firmware update come yet? For a $128 BD player those shortcomings are par for the course IMO.

Most people who own it and reviewed it liked it.

I've used it and its a competent Blu-ray player, much better than anything besides a PS3 that was around for most of 2006 2007 or even late 2008.

Wadda ya want for $128? It was $250 last fall.

Its much better with the latest firmware installed. I can't remember if that enabled BD-Live or not, but it worked pretty well as a Bonus View PiP player.

Firmware needs an ISO image burned

The player would work just fine if all you are doing is plugging its HDMI out into a HDTV.

My Best Buy has had an Insignia BD player on clearance for $119 for the past month. Didn't check the model number.

Re: Blu-ray playback
So overall, while the NS-2BRDVD struggled with test patterns, we found only minor real-world performance shortcomings. Unless you're a videophile who demands the absolute best, you won't even notice.

Sounds good to me!
