Is my TV dealer being fair?

The panel on my Sony KDL2W3000 purchased 18 months ago is defective. It recently developed a series of horizontal lines that appear on the screen during the first 5 minutes it's turned on. Luckily, I purchased the extended warranty from my dealer. When the tech looked at he diagnosed the defective panel and said he'd order a new one. They called back a week later and said no panel available, we'll give you a new TV. They've offered the KDL52V5100. When I chose the W3000, the "W" series was between the "V" and XBR, so I'm afraid I'm being down-graded, though they tell me that Sony is discontinuing the "W" series. The V5100 has 18-month newer technology including 120Hz that the W didn't, but it has an 8-bit panel where the W had a 10-bit. Any thoughts you good folks have would be greatly appreciated.

To be honest, I doubt you'd see a difference between an 8-bit panel and a 10-bit panel. The 10-bit is technically better on paper, but Blu-ray and HDTV will only do 8-bit anyhow. You really wouldn't be missing out on anything. They're giving you a fair deal and I'd take it. Also, as technology often trickles down, it is likely the V5100 is a few steps up from the W3000 series.
