help me pull the trigger? toshiba vs vizio

05-03-2009, 05:15 AM
through all my research on this website and others I have narrowed down my search to these two 1080p sets:

Vizio VO37LF = 689.99

Toshiba 40RV52R = 699.99 (on sale starting today)

I've seen the two sets in person and was much more impressed with the toshiba. The √izio seemed cheaper to me (dont know exactly why, it had something to do with the look and feel of the plastic, seemed thinner than the toshiba).

Anyway, I am no expert and could not tell enough of a difference in the screen to make a clear cut decision.

I primarily use the tv with my mac mini and previously purchased a Zvox mini for my audio needs (highly suggest the Zvox mini for the price and simplicity)

So audio does not matter between the sets

I also plan on getting the 3 yr warranty through BJ's, so I guess manufacture warranty differences aren't important either.

Is there something I am missing about these two particular tv's that would put one above the other?

thanks in advance and hopefully this gets answered before 11am so I can purchased in confidence.

I vote for Toshiba. It is a long established brand with good reputation. And it is 3 inches larger which well deserves $10 price difference. And this sticky post strengthen my opinion. http://www.highdefforum.com/flat-panel-tvs/57224-flat-panel-buyers-guide-noobs.html. Good luck!

I recently looked at LCD displays for my sister then for myself. We got a Toshiba 42" 1080p for my sister and I got a Vizio SV420XVT 42" for myself. I could be delighted with either of the displays chosen by my family but haven't seen either display you mention as being considered. Vizio is a much bigger seller in the US and is priced lower generally for similar models and is in my opinion a better value overall. Comparing specific models, I could sure choose Toshiba over Vizio, but in general, my choice considering price is more likely to be Vizio. That is exactly what the market has done.

didn't realize how far these things had come....

my 42 inch daewoo was manufactured in 2003 and weighed about 60lbs

the Toshiba that I just got seems to weigh half and was easy to hang....

regular tv looks brilliant, computer looks brilliant.

not sure about the power cord though.... its attached to the tv permanently... small inconvenience but the color/audio/menu settings
are light years ahead of what I had....

thanks for all your input.... now Im on to calibrate this sucker....

all together it was 845.57 for tv, tax and 2 yr warranty from BJ's

best buy has about the same deal going on right now, I'm just leary of their warranty...

sorry, as I just read this post this morning.

you could have bought the Vizio on e-bay with an extended manufacturer's warranty for about $300 less.

I got a 37" Vizio, and have been more than satisfied.
