Samsung, no doubt. It's not even a comparison, to be honest.

The Samsung is an LED backlit LCD panel so that will provide much better black levels over the Sony which I believe is only florescent backlit.

No doubt Sony LCDs are very good displays, and they share the same LCD panels with Samsung through a joint venture where Samsung makes the LCD panels that both companies use. Possibly this has changed recently, but last I heard last year this arrangement was still in effect.

I know the Samsung model IS an LED based LCD and they have consistently been better rated performers than the florescent based LCDs according to the pro reviewers. I know this Samsung model is edgelit and does not have localized dimming like the previous LED model by Samsung so it may not be as good as the LNxx950 model which did have localized dimming for excellent black levels that rival plasmas in black levels.

In general I think the PQ between Sony & Samsung LCDs for price comparable models are almost equal, but IMO, and nearly all pro reviewers, the LED models are better than the florescent based models. I understand Sony also has an LED based model and it is also fantastic and beats out the non LED based models from all other mfg also.

I have to look at both of these sets every day at work, and the 7000/7100 Samsung is (in my opinion) leagues above the Sony in terms of picture quality. I think a more fair comparison would be with an XBR7/8.

In the race for mass market LED-backlit LCDs, they have fallen behind. It's great you like Sony, I like them too, but there are many cases where they are not "the best."
