I have a DLP and wouldn't trade it. I didn't realize it at the time of purchase but DLP is only 1 of 2 truly digital televisions. Even plasma is analog.

That article says that most HDTVs don't let you adjust any settings when using DVI/HDMI. I am sure glad my RCA DLP does let me adjust EVERYTHING.

I agree completely. All fixed pixel displays are inherently digital by nature.

Aside from the fact that they are pushing sales, how is this cable?
Is there a cable better then monster?

Monster cables are over-hyped and way overpriced. Shop around,,,compare specs,,and for Gods sake,,if you happen to buy MC's at BestBuy,,please don't buy their "service plan" on them.

Yeah, you definately DO NOT buy a warranty on cables.

I would buy the A/R brand cables that Best Buy sells instead of monster cables. They are about 1/4 the price and just as good. That is what I use.

Here is the link for the A/R Component cable I use it is $19.99:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=5573925&type=product&id=1069297060473

For A/R DVI 6 foot cable I would get - it is $49.99:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6733092&type=product&id=1087340589368

If you stick with the Accoustic Research brands you will cut your cost to less than HALF what Monster cables cost, and you will NEVER see or hear a difference.

Can anyone verify this claim? If it is true we can sue all the manufacturers and the stores that sell LCD and Plasma TVs as ditgital TVs. This is clearly false advertising. I am going to make a copy of that article and take it to my lawyer to see if it will hold up.

Hold on a minute; Don't quit your day job just yet!

p.s. Plasma, LCD, DLP, & LCoS are digital. CRT's are analog.

OK.

A plasma screen is filled with gas. Right? So over time the gas will lose it strength and fade?

An LCD had a bunch of tiny little pixles that can freeze up, burn out and die?

A DLP has a some sort of Color wheel thing and mirrors that can get moved around and out of alignment causing blured imaging? :(

O.K.

Here's my question.

The LCOS and HD-ILA if these are the same sets, besides the bulb burning out! What can go wrong with these?

1. By the time any quality plasma fades to the point it is unwatchable, you probably already moved it to the basement when you purchased your 2nd generation holographic display.

2. Another urban legend; pixels are not just waiting to die. Pixel defects are usually noticeable right away, and do not get worse. Sure, in time anything can decay and provide less performance. But go back to statement one for when that will happen.
For this reason alone, LCOS and HD-ILA are in the same category. Nothing is perfect.

3. Like lamps, color wheels can be replaced. We can hope 'continuous improvement' will enable them to last longer as new models come on the scene.

4. You are really limiting yourself if you believe LCoS and HD-ILA will not be replaced in the future with even better technology. I hope you are planning on having a long life so you can enjoy it. :)

It is not 'loss of gas' that causes plasmas to dim, but chemical degradation of their chemical phosphors.

LCDs can die because each pixel incorporates a transistor, and semiconductors eventually cease to conduct because of migration of dopant. LCOS, D-ILA, and SXRD are basically variations on an LCD.

DLP mirrors don't go out of alignment, because they are not adjusted to some variable point... they are pulled against a hard stop at either end of their 'teeter' by electrostatic force.

I have two Hitachi vs series LCD's and I assure you the pictures are not analog!

The displays in question are 'digital'. Sources can be analog or digital.
