Well my Panasonic TH-46PZ80U went green screen today. I have only had it about 6 days now. I bought it a Costco so returning it is no big deal but now i am stuck with either getting another one or get the Vizio 50" VP505XVT. The screen looks green with snow and it looks like it has reverse polarity to the picture if this makes sense. I have checked all of the inputs unplugged it and tried everything and it is defiantly the TV. It has some small Bose speakers and a sub woofer sitting near it will this cause any problems? Also it had a USB hard drive behind it from my Dish network 722 receiver. All of these where at least 5 to 10 inches away from the TV. What do you recommend?

Don't be so quick to jump of the 80u, it is quite possible that you just got a bad set and getting a new one will most likely cure your problem. People like the vizio but they still aren't up to the same caliber as the panny.

I am not jumping off yet. But it was a loose connection or something because if you tap the back of the TV it fixes it for a while then it comes back. I did return it. The guys a Costco said this is there third Panasonic TH-46PZ80U in a year year that they have had returned. So now I am looking again for a Plasma only have $1300 limit to spend. This Panasonic was only $789 after $100 rebate that is why I got it. I would like to get a 50" or bigger if possible at this price. The Vizio is a 50". Still not giving up on Panasonic but I am not sure if I want another Panasonic TH-46PZ80U. Is there another model that i should be looking at?

the 46pz85u is very very similar, but also adds a vga (pc) input, the price should be just above the pz80u.

Just so you know. Panasonic is rated as the most reliable plasma maker out there. Do they make every one perfect? No., but you just got one of the more rare units that had issues. Just the fact that Costco had only 3 returns in a year speaks volumes for how rare this problem is. That is very low, yet you make it seem like 3 returns are a lot for a store that size. It is very low. What likely happened is the defective batch went to that same store. I have never heard of this issue myself after a year of reading about this model.

This is exactly what I was thinking. It's just like the internet.100,000 people all buy the same thing, but 100 of them go online and complain about something or another, and it seems like it's a horrible product. When in fact, it's just that the other 99,900 people didn't go online to say how great it was.

Point being, they may have had 3 of them returned, but how many total have they sold?? And PFC5 nailed it. It's possible that this location got a bad batch.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but my parents have a brand new panny 50PZ80U and today when my father was hooking everything back up (just got Fios installed) the TV will work fine for like 20 seconds or so then go to a green screen...

What do you guys think? Is the set bad? Bad connection? Something with Fios? They haven't had this issue until today after the cable hook-up.

Thanks so much.

What i meant was that three returns is fine. I loved the Panasonic picture. But I am now thinking I want at least a 50" or bigger. But i have yet to find a Panasonic 50" 1080p for less than $1600. The Vizio 50" is looking good at $1100 right now. Also i had been told that the Vizio screens are or were made by or the same as the Panasonics so maybe I will go this route. My 42" Vizio & 50" Pioneer have been very good for me. I did miss the PIP on Panasonic I have that on my Vizio. Also it has four HDMI inputs which I will use. I had to use a HDMI switch to run all four of my HDMI inputs with my Panasonic. Eventually I will get a updated stereo receiver with HDMI inputs. So it is not that big of a issue. I just don't want to buy the Vizio and wish I had a Panasonic latter.

Try tapping the back or side of the TV and see if this fixes it. It did for me. So I think it was a loose connection.

I am not saying it is a bad product just letting people know what happened so they can learn from it. Like I said again I loved the Picture on the Panasonic. :D

The problem IF the Vizio does use the Panasonic glass are they using the current years panel or a prior year panel? I know they planned on using the Panasonic panels at some point but i do not recall if that ever took place before Vizio decided to stop making plasmas.

I had bought a Sanyo 50" plasma for my bedroom that was supposed to have a Samsung panel but it had very poor black levels and very poor SD PQ. I could only assume it was a prior year panel design/tech used in the Sanyo models and the Sanyo also had poor electronics for scaling different resolutions to it's fixed resolution.

Just something to think about when making your decision. ;)

EDIT:

Here is a place that says they have the 50pz80u for $1,450.00, but i never heard of this place before so check them out fully before deciding:

Link Here... (http://www.shopzilla.com/panasonic-viera-tc-p50s1-1080p-plasma-hdtv/1007261649/compare)

Check the above link. Shopzilla lists numerous sites where you buy Panny's NEWEST 50" 1080p at under $1600.

I'm just going to go out on a limb and say that if you're going to spend the money, spend it right. I'm not saying that Vizio is not a good brand, but it does seem as though there are more people complaining about them as opposed to first tier brands like Panasonic and Samsung. Totally just my opinion and experience though.

Thanks. The shipping kills me on most of the online stuff. I wish Costco would carry the 50" Panasonic. Yes your right I have read more complaints about the Vizio's then the Panasonic's that is for sure. This is a tough decision now. Will be ready to buy again next weekend. Thanks for the input. :D I will keep reading and looking.:D

Here is a weekend special from that link Awol provided. Onecall is selling the TC-P50S1 for $1429.98 which INCLUDES free shipping AND there is a $200.00 mail in rebate too. That puts the final cost after rebate at $1230.00. Just check this out:

http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=95253

Onecall has a great reputation too, so no fears of it being a ripoff site either. ;)
