Major LCD Black Streaking Problem - w/Pics.

A few weeks ago I discovered a small black streak on my LCD while watching a Blu-Ray. I kinda just brushed it off since it was too small to even notice... like less than a half inch. Probably was there for months unnoticed.

Now that very same streak has exploded and decided on bringing some friends along. :banghead:

I know my Panel is pretty much doomed but I'm hoping someone here knows what has happened to it.

Here are some pics, I'm no photographer and my camera is a piece of trash, but something is better than nothing, I guess.

Boy that don't look good. Never seen anything like that before.

That is weird. I have never seen anything like that either. It looks like ink that has run from the original location of something.

Does it move on the screen or is it always in the same location. If it is moving then it is likely a video board that can be replaced, but if it never moves then it is likely the panel is shot along with the display.

Sadly the streaks are stationary. As with you folks, I don't know what to make of it. The panel is roughly 4 years old, never dropped or otherwise abused. It's just something that's become progressively worse over a short time.

The pattern of these streaks are just odd as the pics show. In extremely bright backgrounds, the streaking isn't too apparent but it's still there. Much more noticeable during normal viewing.

I now have an excuse for a new set, but this is plain disturbing.

Try running a microfiber slightly on the firm side of pressure over the effected areas and see if that helps or worsens it since it is out of warranty and basically useless now already. Who knows, you may get lucky and it could improve it at least enough for a bedroom display.

Good luck!

Liquidx...What brand of LCD is this? I'm guessing it's a Samsung?

I didn't help nor did it make it worse. It was also my bedroom display.

Ah, I didn't mention it. Yes it's a Samsung 42".

Based on what you are saying it is likely the panel, but who knows? Maybe you could email the pics to Samsung and ask what they think.

Good luck.
