Best tv for normal cable??

Hi all. I am planning on replacing my upstairs tv (old 29" crt), with a flat panel tv. I currently have a Sharp 52" tv in my home theater room, and love it, but, it is on a High Def pvr, not just plain old cable. I have tried hooking it up to just cable, and find it is not a flattering picture, to say the least. I have noticed that some tv's look better than others when hooked up to normal cable. Does anyone have any suggestions on this matter? I am not planning to purchase another HD box, so, please keep in mind, this will be hooked up to cable only.
Thanks in advance
Dale.

Do you mean just the straight cable out of the wall, or a analog cable box?

Either way you are not going to get the greatest PQ with SD on a HDTV but the size plays a big part in how bad it might look along with the viewing distance. You left both of those parts of the equation out of your post. ;)

Depending on those answers you may get decent PQ if you buy a set that has good video processing onboard. The Vizio XVT models seem to have a Silicon Optix REON chip in them so that might be your best best.

Straight cable, right out of the wall. I know that without a digital box, or HD signal, it's not great, but, like i mentioned, it seems that some are better than others without the fancy equipment hooked up.
Viewing distance is about 8'.

Stick with another CRT. You will not like any LCD or Plasma hooked up to analog cable. I have a 22 inch LCD in my den hooked up to both an HD set top box and basic cable. SD looks just as bad on it as it does on my 50" set. However, SD continues to look fine on my CRT in my bedroom. Unless you plan to view HD in your bedroom, get another CRT. :2cents

It is getting hard to find CRTs anymore though.

Also depending on the cable company, he may be able to get the major networks in HD since nearly all HDTVs have a QAM tuner to handle the cable signal out of the wall and if the cable company doesn't scramble the base channels he will get those channels in HD for no additional cost. ;)
