811 Remote problem

Does anyone have experience with the box losing the "remote address" periodically.
Trying to help my neighbor who has the DISH 811.
It seems his remote stops working from time to time(power outage?) and we have to
reprogram the box so that it's linked with remote.

Terrible design.....very annoying. Any solutions?

You need to determine wheather it is the remote or the receiver that is having the problem. If the receiver is defaulting back to unit 1 then it is probably the receiver, but if the receiver is holding the proper unit number it is probably the remote in which case the batteries or battery connections could be the problem.

I had one case where someone pushed the button on another receiver (the one to allow programming of the remote) while I was setting up a receiver remote and I ended up setting two receivers to the same unit number, but it takes a combination of events for that to occur, so I wouldn't think it would be a case of a neighbor changing the receiver.

Situations like this along with the annoying reboot time is why I have my satellite receivers on a UPS and I highly recommend anyone to do the same. You can also use the UPS to keep the clock settings on a VCR if you have one. For just a satellite receiver only a very small UPS would be necessary, like this one:

INTERNET350 Tripplite Internet Office Low Profile UPS (350VA, 6 Outlets) (http://www.altex.com/product_info.php?products_id=3225) $39.00

I'm on my second remote. It's not the remote it is the receiver. It usually just starts functioning again after a day or two. Resetting does not help.
