Well I bit the Bullitt. Here is what I got.

Yamaha RX-V663 $360 (local store) matched 6th ave
Energy ESW-10 sub $204.00 (local store) matched audio advisor

And from wwstereo for $450
(2) C-300
(2) C-R100 ( I liked the sound from these)
(1) C-C50

So total investment is $1,014.00. I thought this is a pretty good deal:yippee::yippee:

This will be my first 5.1 system and though I have looked at the HTIB sets, I believe I made the right choice going this route instead and plus I can always add or upgrade components this way.

Good to hear you found a good setup erict, I really like the 663 I upgraded from an older philips 5.1 reciever and its awsome. Let me know how you like the energy speakers I was looking into them for my speaker upgrade, seems like a good deal though I would also be upgrading the sub. There are so many things you can do with an actual reciever that HTIB units can't do.

Yea I’m excited this being my first surround sound system. Now I will have to find time to set this up. My plans are to build a new TV stand to custom fit everything (I have a woodshop) so hopefully I’m up and running in the next month, it's not a heated shop. I will let you know.

erict, Way to go on a great setup for such a steal!! I was fortunate enough to get my TV stand for $15... the thing is very nice and GREAT quality. It could be a bit deeper for my receiver but I guess you get what you pay for! Custom built.... ahhhhhhh *drool*.... Looking forward to seeing pics of the setup!

I also had to build my own stand the main cabinet is made of wood and houses my BD player and AV reciever and I built two shelves on either side out of metal(Im a welder) on the one side my dish reciever sits on top and my sub is under it and on the other side is lower and my wii sits on it. Its nice when you can make something that fits your tastes and needs.

I look forward to the pics.

The drivers on those Energy's are beautiful on a visual level.

I hope you dig the sound of 'em too.

I will defiantly take before and after pics. I have a audio/video store 1/2 mile from work and went over on my lunch hour and listened to them. Man they sure sounded nice. They have four 3 walled rooms with pioneer plasmas in them along with different energy lines in each one. He popped in s.w.a.t. and lets just say I was late getting back to work:p That's when I also fell in love with the C-R100 bipoles.

Well I just received my speakers from wwstereo. I had them shipped to work so they didn't sit on my front porch all day. I didn't want to unpack them all at work to inspect, so I waited till I got home. Every speaker was perfect except one of the C-300's. It looks like it was dropped at some point. One of the corners is really nicked bad and you can see where the Styrofoam took the hit because it's in three pieces. I will have to give them a call tomorrow to send out a replacement.

I was just looking at that package and it those speakers look really nice Im thinking about buying those when im ready, I have the same reciever and those seem to be getting good reviews. Was the payment and service good through that company? Aside from the damage to the speaker of course. Once I start working over time again its gonna happen and who knows I may splurge a bit and get a really expensive sub or maybe 2 moderately priced subs and really piss of my neighborhood:) Oh the joy of it all, my basement is perfect for audio and I can't wait to upgrade to good speakers.

They are very easy to deal with and very polite on the phone. I will be calling at 9am today and will let you know how they handle this.

I called this morning and there is no problem exchanging it. The only thing is they needed to receive the damaged one before sending out a replacement. So I just bought another C-300 so it would ship today and when they receive the damaged one they will credit me. They did ask if I wanted to keep the speaker and they would give me a discount price on it since it was a cosmetic damage. The new one is on it's way already.

Hopefully it stays that way, I want to upgrade but I have to wait awhile and sneak it under my fiance's radar:) Its hard to justify this stuff when the women don't give a crap about it:) I can't wait to upgrade though, I should be done after that.

Well UPS brought my replacement C-300 today from wwstereo and I crossed my fingers all the way home. I just opened her up to inspect her and it's in perfect condition:D Two of the styrofoam corners were in two pieces but it survived the journey.

Good to hear they delivered it in one piece. A buddy of mine from college used to work for UPS in the warehouse and he said you wouldn't believe what they do to the packages. They have to move a certain volume per hour and there's a conveyor belt that leads up towards the trucks. If a box gets jammed they just run up there and KICK it into the truck! If it falls off then they just toss it to the side and keep going.

I cringe every time I have to get something shipped!

Yup, my buddy's manager would always say to them, "Oh well, should have gotten the added insurance!"
