Wondering when DTV will have full HD lineup. I hear you can get about 6 HD channels now. That's bad, especially with Dishnetwork taking over all of Voom's HD content!! I heard that DTV has new satellites going up for adding HD channels, but wonder when this is going to happen?

If I read the press release properly, they have already launched two of those satellites (a few months ago) with two more going up in 2007. I would imagine that if they wanted to, they could broadcast a whole lot of MPEG-2 HD channels to you RIGHT NOW!!....but would have to shut all of that down in a just few months when they are ready to launch MPEG-4 HD services. Then you'd have a TON of current HD users bitching about why their channels were pulled. These customers wouldn't be able to understand why they are being forced to upgrade their receivers when they were just receiving all the HD channels they wanted. So if my assumption is correct, I think Directv is being very smart by just letting those satellites hang out in orbit while they setup things for the REAL solution. Eventually, everything will be HD...so it's smart to draw a line in the sand and say if you really want HD, wait a few months for MPEG-4. With all the pieces finally coming together (1080p displays, MPEG-4 satellite broadcasts, SONY PS3), 2006 should be a HUGE year for HighDef!!

Will we need new dishes to be able to get signals from the new satellites? I just upgraded to HD last year, so I don't want to shell out a lot more cash for equipment upgrades...

Streetfighter, I saw the little HD symbol on one of the 500# Cinemax channels as I was scrolling through Guide the other night too, but didn't check to see if it really was broadcasting in HD. Are they broadcasting Cinemax in HD on Directv now?

By now most of you should realize that most of the HD content on TV these days is on the network channels. I don't how long it will take before that changes. My advice is to use OTA reception as much as possible, even if you have to spend a bit on a roof top antenna.

It was in HD, although some shows looked great and others looked just ok kinda like Showtime HD. Don't know why but Showtime HD is awful sometimes like they are broadcasting a darker picture.
