DirecTV and TIVO

06-15-2005, 12:55 PM
My roommate and I just got DirecTV service and tried to set up his TIVO with the satellite box. The TIVO will pause and play shows but it cannot change the channel. When we press the channel up/down button, it goes away and comes back to the same channel. Is the only option just to get a DirecTV DVR unit or is there some option that I have yet to explore?

Did your friend download the DTV guide from TIVO so it knows the channels in set up?

You've said nothing about HOW you have interconnected the Tivo & STB... since the Tivo has no sat tuning abilities, you must have connected to an 'Aux' type video input. To record you'll have to select that input, instead of the tuner. You can only record the currently viewed sat channel. Since you haven't connected your Tivo to an antenna or cable source, it's tuner has no input & so can't select ANY channel... and returns to viewing the AUX input. You'll need to use the STB remote to change channels.

If you have connected to a coax output from the STB, it's NOT like a full spectrum cable coax... it's ONLY the current channel, output as if it's a broadcast station on channel 3 or 4.
