Voom for SBC DN Customers

06-13-2005, 08:29 PM
Hey Guys, I have been reading this forum and I also want to get the new Voom HD Channels. I called the customer service and they told me I need to pay $99 for an extra dish. I called the next day and they told me since I have Dish Network through SBC, I can't get them right now.

I do have the HD pack right now and I have 2 dishes- a 500 for the HD and normal channels aimed at the 61.5 bird and the other one aimed at a different angle to get the local channels (i can't see if it's a 500, but probably is). I live in Chicago, IL and we got this package in the middle of December last year. We have 2 811's and a normal receiver for a non HD tv.

Do you guys think I could get the Voom channels with this? Do I really need to spend 100 buck on another dish? Should I lie and tell them I was a former voom customer? Would they bite it if I did? Is there anyone here who has got the Voom channels and lives in the Windy City and pays DN through SBC?

thanks for any suggestions.

TotalNewbie if you goto the menu on the dish menu. Than hit system setup, than goto installation and than point dish / signal. You will see all Satellite list. Move over and put the check mark in the 61.5 West and see if you get a signal. It will lock if you got that satellite. If you don't it will be red and say not locked. You can check different transponders by changing them. Hope this works. Tell me what happens.

Hi, I tried to change the transponder several times, but it did not show the Voom channels.

My dish is pointed at the 61.5 satellite and still I can't get them yet.

This is making me mad.

I don't know if it will work but, try doing a check switch; if that doesnt work, completely power down the receiver...goodluck

Did you get any signal when you went into the menu? You won't get the Voom Channels till the turn them on at Dish. Do you get CBS in HD from the satellite. If you do that is 61.5.

The problem is that SBC hasn't negotiated with VOOM yet, so it's not in their computers as an option. They say they're going to add it, but WHEN?
BTW,it's not just a problem in Chicago, it's the same on the west coast also.
If you're correctly pointed at the 61.5 satellite, you should see the 10 VOOM channels, but in red. If you can get ch 9443, the HD demo channel, you're pointed OK.
