Cablevision PQ

Has anyone noticed a drop in picture quality on Cablevision HD lately?

I may be nuts, but it seems to me that sometime around when the Voom channels disappeared, the PQ declined. I'm not quite sure if it's my TV, the set-top box, the cable signal itself, or my imagination - but the PQ lately seems similar to what I get from my DVD player (i.e., 480p).

This is difficult to tell for sure, because there was always some variation in PQ dependant on the channel and program I was watching. However, I am pretty sure that the quality has declined, and I am awfully suspicious that it is the signal I'm getting from Cablevision.

I guess the only way to know for sure is to get a blue-ray DVD player. If that picture is up to snuff, at least I would know it's not the TV. I did go into the setup menu for my STB to check the output, and it was correctly set to 1080i.

Anyway, I was just curious if anyone else has noticed the same thing.

So that's the only reason to get Blu-ray? Keep in mind that even BD titles are very inconsistent. But if you must, get a copy of...say...LOST and do an A/B with the broadcast.

Back to your original question, I have not see a drop in quality. Drop outs and pixelation yes. Fox 5 here in NYC in particular.

The PQ here on Long Island ( Cablevision Optimum) is fine, a couple of the added channels are stretch-a-vision but no problems with the HBO's or other HD channels.

I haven't seen any change.
