Seems like a really good deal. The Energy's are about the Polk you listened to in terms of sonic signature, but they're highly regarded speakers.

I'm interested in hearing about your experience with the vendor. Looks like a really good deal.

shaklee,
As kamspy requested, can you please provide some feedback on that vendor (Bob and Ron's World Wide Stereo).

kamspy, scooby, and others
I was just about ready to order a set of older Polks (Monitor 50's, Monitor 30's, CS2, and PSW10) from Amazon, when I ran into the link shaklee posted. While I have heard the Polk setup, I have not had a chance to listen to the Energy setup. I am wondering how they'd compare. Based on the price, and Energy's reputation, this sounds like a better (and cheaper) deal than the Polk setup. Do you guys mind sharing your thoughts?

thanks!

I haven't heard that specific set of Energys, but they do tend to be on the bright side.

I would make sure that you're OK with a bright or treble heavy speaker before you order those.

The Polk Monitors, while not uber reference audiophile speakers, are warm neutral and natural sounding.

No disrespect to any Energy owners, I just really don't care for a bright sound. My Infinity Betas are even a bit too bright for me.

Shipping was quick 3 days (not bad for free) even though UPS beat the heck out of the box....works perfect. I would buy from them again.:2cents

I also ordered the Energy set from Bob and Ron's World Wide Stereo. Placed order Thursday night, and they were delivered yesterday (Tuesday) - boxes were all intact with no damage/dents. So far I am very impressed with the Energy set. I have them paired with an Onkyo 606 and PS3. And as kamspy stated, they do seem slightly biased on the bright side, but not enough to bother me, I actually like it. I'm impressed with the amount and quality of low frequencies the C-300 fronts produce, they definitely help the 8" sub that comes with this specific set. Briefly tested with different types of music (2.1), and KungFu Panda/TDK (BR) (5.1) last night. More in-depth testing this weekend! :)

Hotnicks,
I am looking at pretty much the same setup. However they are sold out of the ESW-8 subwoofer but are willing to remove $99 off the price so I can just get another (probably the same one) somewhere else.

I am still on the fence whether I'm going to get the Onkyo TX-SR606 to go with it though. Do you think it powers these speakers sufficiently?

The other one I am heavily looking at right now is the Yamaha RX-V663. From what I have read it might have more true wattage output.

I have the Yamaha, but I do use a seperate power amp to drive my speakers . Don't think you can go wrong with either!
The setup is really easy!

Mikey,
Do you use separate power amp because you don't think the Yamaha is good enough or you just need more power?

From my hearing experience, the 606 is defintely powerful enought to drive these speakers. I was able to turn up the volume as loud as I felt comfortable (65 on the Onkyo) and did not hear any bit of distortion.

As far as the subwoofer goes, I am sure you can get better, but it is really impressive for an 8". My setup is in the family room (lower floor of a slpit entry) with concrete base + lenolium tiles so I do not get the "earthshaking" feel. But I am able to hear solid base without distortion at higher volumes.

I do believe in using separate amp to drive speaker, better sound. For HT not sure it matters as much as with music!
Lol, you can never have too much power, I still use only 12 ga speaker wire. Old school!
Just my opinion!
I'm sure L2W can give a better explanation than me.

My use has nothing to do with the power of the Yamaha. No matter what rec I use, still will use a sep pwr amp

Got my speakers today,it was nice to see UPS in the driveway.:banana:Anyway, hooked them up to see what happened and I must say I liked what I heard.Well worth the 399.00 I paid for them I think.Still waiting on my receiver and sub,so I haven't really done anything but hook them up to my old HTIB receiver.
Packaging was really good.Speakers were in plastic wrap with styrofoam on the corners, top and bottom to prevent damage, and the speakers had some sort of a wax paper cover over them with the speaker grill on top of that.Connectors are nice quality also. All of this was in a big sturdy box.The gloss finish is nice, and they are heavy.Manual says give them 100hrs before trying to tweak the settings, well see how that turns out.All in all,I must say I'm happy.

Well I dove in and purchased the 5 speaker bundle from wwstereo. I waited too long and they were sold out of the sub that was bundled with it before but that is ok. I am finalizing my decision now on the receiver to go with it.

Ahhhhhh...... Yamaha RX-V663BL or Onkyo TX-SR606 or ??? I'm going to head into my local hi-fi audio store and give the Yamaha a listen (they don't have the Onkyo for test driving) and whatever else they have available.
